Portal was better in context. It appeared to be an "also ran" in a pack of games you actually wanted. I thought it was just some proof of concept demo and didn't get why those that got preview copies were so in awe of it. The fact that it severely surpassed expectations adds to its cult status.

Oh, and to those who think portal was too short, check out Portal: The Flash Version Map Pack and Portal: Prelude. Both awesome map packs which really has a lot of new challenges. Then after that, there's a carp load of great maps on My Aperture Labs. I mean, I'm hopin most of you have heard of this before, but if you haven't played any of these yet, stop what you're doing and play them right now.
