Quote:Karrde link=topic=4683.msg156802#msg156802 date=1276019398] This was my only concern with the processor/mobo as well. I was hoping this rig would be good for 4 or 5 years with minor upgrades. Then at that point the next generation of SATA and USB would be fully supported and I might consider stepping up to an LGA 1366 processor/mobo Quote:
I <3 my 1980x1080 monitor
I love my 1920x1200 samsung display
Which display do you guys all have? I was considering going with a differnt one, but I'd like to keep it at or below $200. |

Quote:
You know what, duck is right. The processor is the most under-utilized thing in a computer unless you're encoding video/audio. Might as well just get a dual core. Here's an argument for AMD Not only does the 965 perform better in benchmarks, it's cheaper, and the motherboard (high end asus) was cheaper.
saying it benchmarks better is misleading at best. It performs better with some tests, worse with others (most of what I care about is gaming, and it does not outperform the intel chip in that regard). Sure, maybe it's cheaper, and maybe the motherboard is cheaper, but I'd rather have good performance, and with my last Asus board I wasn't happy. I got a lot of interference with audio and ended up having to buy an external sound card just to get rid of it, offsetting and savings I might have had. When I was doing the research, it sounded like a lot of people were having the very same problems with their Asus motherboards, and some claimed that it was simply a result of Asus getting lazy. Their mobo quality has def suffered, so next time I buy I'll def reconsider buying from someone else. Ripped like paper raped with ease hey scrub nerd pyros suck on these |

I'm also buying soon-ish think ill wait till at least 4th of july or something, maybe there will be some sale or something. I'm still on the fence for AMD/Intel but leaning towards AMD

My last mobo lasted over 4 years of 24/7 600Mhz overclock on air cooling, it still works flawlessly, it's MSi.
My 2nd PC has an ASUS mobo that used to have a similar stressful OC 24/7, it's been running for 3 or 4 years as well, it's attached to a UPS, so it's p.much 24/7 perfect. My current mobo in main PC is a Gigabyte that's got some serious weight in copper tracing, and it handles srs voltage OC very well. Roundabout way of saying MSi, ASUS and Gigabyte all kick ass. I used to use an ASUS Radeon 8500 forever, that thing could handle a hearty overclock as well. Also Duck is right, benchmarks are for dittoheads. My PC is by no means a beast, it's a 2.6 Quad Core AMD without a L3 cache, 4GB of DDR2-800 RAM and a Radeon 4980, and it can consistently give me more frames than benchmarks from toms, 3dguru and hardOCP with the closest match hardware, which is oftentimes the beefier Phenom version of my CPU. |
