I watched the end of the game; pretty much just starting with OT (my girlfriend was watching Top Chef Masters). The goal was really anti-climatic. Kane was literally the only person who knew the puck went in, just mass confusion.

Id give it another 3 years since they have new owners now. The hawks were horrible because the owner was Ebeneezer Scrooge levels of penny pinching and wouldn't spend anything on getting better players. They start spending after an ownership change and 3 years later win the cup.

All signs show the Ricketts are willing and able to spend more money than the Tribune Company was on players, I mean...fuck the cubs MAKE just as much money as the Yankees do, they just don't spend a dime of it getting better players. Its unrealistic to think the ownership change will cause an immediate turn around, but I could see it happening in the next few years if the pocketbooks open up.

Cubs probably have the best fans of any pro sports team. Fiercely loyal, sold out games all of the time, and the area around the stadium really has a great downtown feel. I went a Royals game a couple of weeks ago, and the stadium was half-empty, fans not really into the game (even with multiple home runs), and the Staudium is outside of the downtown off of a freeway. It sucks.

There is no better feeling then hopping off the metro to a Cubs game with t-shirt vendors yelling, italian beef sandwhiches, and awful Old Style flowing freely. Place has character. I still think that the old Yankee stadium was far superior to any stadium with all of the history and character in it, but now that it is gone it pretty much leaves the Green Monster and Wrigley left for cool, old stadiums. I'm not a Cubs fan, but I love the history and fans, and I do like making the trip to Chicago to catch a game every so often.
