So, interesting use for cactus. In a base, make a hole 3 blocks deep. Place sand at the bottom, then cut away one block in each direction in one layer so there's a + shape. Plant the cactus on the sand (cactuses can't be placed directly adjacent to any blocks), then place a half-block surrounding the hole.

Cactus powered garbage shoot. Destroys anything you throw in there.

In more concrete news, I noticed that BIGJam starts next week. I will release the SMP server before I leave for that. It might be buggy, but I promise to fix it when I get back. It will be missing mobs. Mobs will come later on, and when they’re in, the game will officially be in beta, and the price will go up to 14.95 euro.
While in beta, I will start polishing the game and adding alternative payment providers for people who can’t use paypal, and keep piling in new content.

Aw here we go. Anyone who wants to save about...  $7 should try and get it soon.

Ya pretty much. If you're completely at a loss, there's a crafting Wiki. From what I've gathered, off of spawn you need to punch down a couple trees. Craft wooden planks from the wood, and then a workbench from the planks. After that, you can make your basic tools from wood. After you've got a reasonable buffer of wood built up (a couple stacks should be good), start digging. Hopefully you'll find coal sooner rather than later (it's the blackish stuff you'll find mixed in with stone). Throw up torches whenever you're feeling lost underground, and dig Dig DIG! Once you get deep underground you'll need stone picks instead of wood, and LOTS of them. If you stumble across some fat iron deposits, setup a major excavating operation there. What I do is usually throw down a large chest, furnace, and workbench deep underground. I build either stairs or a ladder for topside access. Once topside, you're probably not going to remember how to get back to your mine in the event you die (you WILL die). What I like to do is leave all my valuables behind in the chest, and go topside with a stack of stone. Then you just hop into the air looking downward, placing a stone below you. Rinse and repeat until you run out of stones or you hit the skybox. Then kill yourself. Assuming you're not retardedly far away from where you spawn on the overworld map, you should see your man-made landmark on the skyline with fog at a minimum. At this point, you mine to your heart's content, and build basically whatever the fuck you want, wherever the fuck you want. I'm working on an underground mansion with a pool and a moat of lava right now. This game fucking rocks

Thanks for all that. The problem is when I read that I started forgetting what you said two lines before and then when I got to the end I didn't want to read it again, but it was something about wood and digging and chests and rocks. That's a good place to start.

Edit: TL;DR version fixed it. It's all good now.

1. Punch Trees, get wood
2. Take wood, make planks and workbench
3. Take workbench, make axes
4. Chop down a lot of fucking trees.
5. Make picks. Dig underground. Make torches with coal and sticks as you go.
6. When you see lots of ore or lava, you're in the right place. Craft stone picks.
7. Build yourself some sort of mine/topside transport. Stairs, ladders, whatever (I did stairs, you'll have an assload of stone)
8. Build a really fucking tall landmark by your mine's entrance. Doesn't matter if you do a giant pillar or opposing strands of giant strands of dna helicase, just make sure it's visible for miles, or you'll never find your mine again. Once you're at the summit, kill yourself.
9. Go back into the mine. Carve out a massive atrium. Place some chests, a workbench, and a furnace or 2 there.
10. Tunnel out in all directions from the atrium. The fancier looking ore with require Iron tools or better. Mine lots of shit.
11. Build lots of shit. Mine more shit. Build fancier shit. Planters. Go Nuts.

That's about the best I can break it down, between that and the wiki you should get the general idea.
