I had a bit of trouble at the start with them, too, but eventually found out a way of doing it properly each time. Make sure you've already built the blocks the stairs are leading to, and also put one block each on the left/ride side of your line of stairs. Don't worry if they snap in weird directions as you're doing it, as they'll be fine once you've finished.

Oh, double post and most of you have probably already seen it, but Notch's latest blog entry is definitely worth reading. I really hope only good things can come from this, especially as he mentioned (in reply to a comment) that he's definitely hiring more programmers.

I'm convinced Notch did something to the terrain generators that he didn't mean to.

I found what was obviously supposed to be a mountain, but the terrain generator forgot what it was doing partway through the generation, then had an epiphany about said mountain and completed it, sort of.

Now if only my home line could upload faster than 67KB/s without saturating itself.

Because most schools block off 100% of web access, right?

Pretty much.. at least mine does.. on a related note the "Thin Client" (Some Linix thing that went out of date back with windows 98 came out) apparently doesn't have a good enough 'video card' to run minecraft.... rather depressing...

Found what must be the only cacti in my ice world in an epic journey.

No reeds though.

It's too bad we can't sort of share stuff or something. I found a ton of reed and cacti are everywhere....

And I finally found a natural cave nearby as well to get this shit started.

I hate updates like that because it just means it's going to be a billion times longer until I can set up a kickass MP server.

Ugh.

Friday Update is out:

+ Added server-side inventory
+ Made the server save player locations when they leave the server
+ Made chests work in SMP
+ Made signs work in SMP
+ Made furnaces work in SMP
+ Added monsters=false to server.properties. You can turn it on for experimental monsters, but you can’t hurt them directly yet. (Fire works, though!)

Compass is a tad bit nicer to have for sure.  Might go try some exploring soon.

Compass might be nice for aboveground exploring. However, I still prefer using torch towers as beacons to find my way back to base.

So, does this mean we'll be able to have some multiplayer?
