Never played a Civ game before.  I hear there will be a demo so I'll play that and determine if this is the kind of game I'd enjoy. I certainly think the idea of being in power of an entire civilization as appealing.

Arrrghhh... was all ready to come home from work tomorrow and put in a solid evening with Civ V, and then my wife tells me we're hosting a business thing for her at the house I had forgotten about!  My efforts to convince her to cancel are thus far unsuccessful.

lastly i wanted civ 5, but no one had any money left for me

did you seriously spend 1 minute on the first one and decide to buy the second or did you just get it in a pack

you really deserve that spot on the wasteful list

I have soooo many games I haven't played on my list, and even more where I only played like 10 minutes or so. Though a lot of them haven't seemed to track time quite right

The intro video is pretty bad ass. When are we going to have an animated theater movie that looks like that? The only one I remember was the Final Fantasy space movie with the ghost bug things.

Demo is extremely confusing, I don't know what I am doing at all.

Anyone happen to have a quick and dirty guide on how to play a civ game and what I should be doing?

Just finished my first game.  So far, I really like it.  If you're really familiar with Civ IV, it's a bit of a shock.  However, I think most changes did in fact work out quite well and helped give the game a nice breath of fresh air, especially the single unit per tile deal;  actually makes wars warlike.  City states are ok, and are pretty much one of the only reasons gold exists, well that and diplomatic victory.  I could probably say more, but I'm tired at the moment and not thinking too straight.

I like it but it's got a ton of weird issues and bugs. The AI is pretty pathetic no matter what difficulty you're in (They almost always sent ranged units into direct combat with melee units despite the game saying you can't), sometimes I've had resources disappear even though I can plainly see I'm still producing them in my zone of control. It doesn't even run in DX10 mode for me even though my computer is more than capable of running it, and dx9 is almost uglier than Civ 4.

It's still not anywhere close to the clusterfuck of Elemental at least, and I'm sure almost all those issues will be patched relatively quick.

Jesus, well I've been unable to get past turn 150 or so no matter what, and it'll usually crash on a game even before that. The catan style rendering usually will crash the game within 2-3 turns for me. Wheeeee

Just bought this BITCHES

Got tired of playing the demo and having it end at 100 turns, which is exactly when all the cool shit starts happening

Also it totally finished downloading right at 1am, looks liek I'm going to be pulling an all nighter despite coming home tired from a big car trip, am in need of a shower, and need to do homework tomorrow
