You can't really have a dedicated group of people doing it unless you make them all buy the newest games as they come out like some super expensive book club.

It doesn't have to be the same people every time. It can change but it would still need a dedicated core. You can swap out "guest hosts" as needed.
[/quote]

This. Dtrain pretty much read my mind with his two posts. That was the stuff I was going to get around to posting tonight. This isn't supposed to be people submitting individual reviews and compiling them into a single podcast. It's supposed to be a discussion, much like his example of Tough Crowd. I'm not saying we can't ever add new segments, but for now let's keep it simple. I need both rotating panelists and a host that can commit to this. He has the right idea and I definitely can't do it all myself. I'll need you guys to help support and promote this, amongst other things, or for all the poking and prodding I do it will never get off the ground. This is meant to be a community project.

As far as games go, I actually had an interesting idea for a first episode that may be less prohibitive than a game like New Vegas. I think our first episode should be on TF2. Why discuss a game that's so old and that so many people have played? There are many reason I can think of. It was the game that pretty much started BRBU, so many people here have played it and have some connection with it. It is a bit of an oddity as far as games go in that it is still widely played and very popular even three years after its release. I think it will also be able to set the type of precedence that I'm looking for in this type of discussion format. I want the panelists to be able to discuss and share their honest thoughts and experiences with a game, not just "oh it has good graphics" or "it has a lot of glitches."

You're right that I need to do more planning and organization, but there are certain elements I need before we can even get that far. Those elements being a game to discuss and people who are willing to discuss it. Once we get that set, we can start planning the show outline and all those other things to go along with it.

So what's the mission statement or, "Why us?" While this podcast can be a useful tool for attracting new members and it would be nice if we could reach a wider audience, I want to create a podcast that is, first and foremost, built for our community's interests. While many people may say this about whatever online communities they are a part of, I truly think that BRBU is more than just another gamer community. There's obviously some quality that we have here that is attractive to people outside of just a single game we play together, which is what drew in most of us and keeps us here. If we can bring that BRBU quality to this podcast and stay true to our community's interests, then I think that is enough (along with the obvious promotions) to attract people. I think my proposed round table game discussion format will allow members of our community to spread word and share their opinions about new games, or even revisited older games, to other members of the community in a way that hasn't yet been explored. I don't know about you guys, but I'd sooner trust the opinions of people that I communicate on a regular basis with rather than some big gaming blog/site. Why a podcast and not just reviews in blog form? Why do people listen to radio stations like NPR? While text can be a useful medium to transfer information and opinions, voice and sound add a whole new level.

Well, if this is going to be all about discussion, then I'm reserving my spot now to discuss morality, racism, and parallels to real world issues in Mass Effect 3. This is gonna rule.

It's perfect. It will, of course, devolve into which alien did we virtual date and why Garrus doesn't want to have a gay relationship with male Shepard.

Better question: Why can't Tali have a lesbian relationship with femShep? I was so disappoint it hurt my teeth.

It's because Garrus and Shepard have a totally platonic bromance.

We could definitely do a Mass Effect 2 episode if other people are interested. Anybody else play Mass Effect 2 and want to discuss it?

This, and the rest of what you said, I nominate you to run/organize things  :p

I think a round table would work best with 3 - 5 people, I would also encourage you to select people with disparaging view points, so the whole thing isn't just smiles and nods of agreement.

Record on Skype, then clean up and process the recording, I would also say one person needs to moderate/keep track of time/keep things on topic (likely you cheese).

Games To Do:
- TF2
- Changes Since Inception
- How has valve handled new items
- Achievements vs Crafting vs Random Drops or should we just get access to everything to be equal?
- Why do we like hats so much?
- Cash Shop...yea or nay?
- New model for FPS games?

- Fallout: NV
- What is it doing right?
- What is it doing wrong?
- Comparisons to 3
- Comparisons to 1/2
- Missing Something? - Modding Discussion
- What now for fallout?

Non-Game Specific:
- Deeper Meaning In Games
- How prevalent is it?
- Do gamers appreciate it?
- Does it lead to increased sales?
- Series to touch on - Mother, Fallout, Mass Effect(?), Half Life(?)

Episode "length" may vary depending on how much people talk about, but I think given editing, it shouldn't go for more than 30min.

Alright then, sounds like we have a consensus. I want you guys to start thinking up some topics about Mass Effect 2 that you would like to discuss. Before we do any recording, I want to hold a meeting over skype to do some brainstorming and further discuss some of the details. I'll send out a PM with the date/time and my skype name in the next 10 minutes or so to all the people who said they were interested.

Discuss all of these:
-Renegade decisions: Evil or simply reckless? I don't think it's ever evil. No matter what you're fighting for a greater good.
-Versus is trapped in an elevator with an Elcor, Volus, and Hanar. Which does he masturbate to first? All of them.
-Are moral choices too tacked on? Is there ever a reason not to select the red or blue option?
-Kal Reegar (heavy weapons Quarian) should be a squad member next time. Also, a Hanar.
-What was the best decision: To "indoctrinate" millions of Geth Heretics to be good, or blow them up?
-Tali's hot for a spacesuit.
