Watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World last night.
Very funny, amazing cinematography (or photography, or whatever you call it). Also, it has Michael Cera in it so it had to be good. Oh, and Anna Kendrick who's from Portland, ME. Straight Maine Reppin'.

It basically had all the same problems that SW:EP1 has, only it is much shorter. |

Yeah, I was glad it was short. Acting could have been a lot better (the girl who played the older sister in Mystery Team was only soso, and a lot of them were just plain bad).
I still really liked the cinematography, especially between cuts. |

Honestly surprised more people didn't like Scott Pilgrim.
I'm betting that it will hit cult status in a few years, but it's interesting to hear everyone's opinions now that it's out on DVD. |

It was different, yes, but it seemed to me like it tried so hard to be different that it just became unbearable to watch. Like that kid who just runs around telling everyone how cool he is when everyone else knows that it's far from true. Painful and embarrassing for everyone involved. It was still neat to watch but I couldn't really enjoy it. |

The characters besides Scott are all two-dimensional and it is very difficult to relate to the protagonist. There is barely a plot. When the resemblance of one forms it lacks any challenge of the main character. No emotion is conveyed to the audience nor any excitement at the climax of the movie. The cuts are fast and hard, making scenes hard to follow. There is nothing redeeming or remarkable about it. |

Just saw the "recobbled" cut of The Thief and the Cobbler. It's not necessarily a great story, but the completed animation is astounding to watch. The last 10 minutes is the most epic scale rube goldberg machine in history. The vocal work was also very good.
The whole story behind this movie is really sad. It's essentially the tale of Richard Williams (Animation Director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and his dream project. An animated epic that was to stand the test of time. He spent over 25 years independently funding and animating it, also managing to get some voice work out of Vincent Price (who is great in the movie as ZigZag). Williams eventually pitched the movie to Warner Bros. and they gave him two years to finish his only 20-minute project. Two years passed, and only about 15 minutes were left to be completed. No editing had been started yet. Warner Bros. dropped the project, fearing of competition from Disney's suspiciously similarly-themed "Aladin", leaving it to be picked up by Miramax studios. They hired a third party studio to finish animations, in which they also heavily changed the plot, added voices to previously mute characters, and removed about 30 or so minutes of Richard's animation and added god-awful song sequences. Miramax also dropped the film and Disney proceeded to pick it up. They took more of Richard's animation out and added more songs. Richard Williams has disowned the project and refuses to talk about it to this date. TL;DR version: The theatrical version is bastardized to the highest degree. You can probably find a copy of the recobbled cut on most torrent sites (as it's a fan-edit and isn't legally allowed to be sold) |

Watched Unstoppable. It was alright, but everybody in the movie was incompetent. Then snuck into Skyline while walking out. Best comedy of the year.

I'm still waiting for a uncut version of Babylon A.D. to come out.
Remove 90 minutes, of course the movie won't make any sense. |
