Mobafire Protip: Select the champ you want and filter for complete builds, then sort the "builds" by score and you'll usually get detailed guides on how to play the champion.  
That's not to say that these builds are the definitive way to play any champion though. As you get more familiar with the game and the items you can start to decide what is and isn't good for your playstyle. Another thing to keep in mind is ways you can adapt your build on the fly to counter things that are giving you trouble in that particular match. It's always good to look at the other teams composition and think about what kinds of damage they do, and what they're capable of.
