NECRO
So I'm trying to learn some basics of cooking since I'm planning to live off-campus next year and will have to cook for myself (and four other flatmates). I'll post my successes (and failures) in the meantime. Browsing this thread too. Anyways: Just made Filet Mignon w/ bacon for dinner 8) Steamed some rice and vegetables too. I'm not sure where the filet came from; my mom picked it up and it was soaking in its own juices--which I figure is bad because that means they were no longer in the meat. Tasted really good although I couldn't get the bacon crispy Also just now made a Fritata, first time trying and I'm happy with the result--was actually fun to make. Basically pan-fry some stuff (I used ham and tomato, want to try mushroom & cheeses) and pour eggs into it. Before it solidifies, pop it in the oven and broil it for a few minutes. End up with this pancake-like thing that's both crispy and soft. |

Me and Wedge like to make Indian and Japanese curry a lot. I haven't really tried making Thai from scratch 'cause it seems a lot more complicated and thai curry paste is basically free at any asian grocer.
I like to bake muffins and cake too. Or anything with chocolate. |

if you want to add a bit of flavor to rice, put a touch of apple cider vinegar into the water right before you add the rice. Tastes good man.

I just made a batch of Rosca (probably Spanish for something...) from my great-grandmother's (and probably her mom)'s recipe. They're sweet rolls.
Soooo good. Hard to follow the recipe, good thing my dad's been doing it for a while. "Add flour until right consistency" |

Steak cooked using the Ducasse method. Go HERE for a standard variation. Mine is altered slightly and slightly slower cooked. Here it is:
Ingredients: 1x 15+oz Ribeye or New York Strip at least 3/4in thick 2x sticks of butter Salt Black Pepper Any other seasoning or marinade you wish to try with it. I use a variety when fiddling around with variations. Things that have worked well: Plain fresh ground sea salt and fresh ground black pepper Worcestershire-based marinade with Cayenne/Red pepper sauce or powder Dry rub of cinnamon, paprika, cumin, black pepper, sea salt, and garlic 0) Season steak as desired (I strongly recommend only salt and pepper for the first time you do this) 1) Heat skillet to Medium-Low heat(4 to 4.5 out of 10 on your burner) and add 1/2 stick of butter and allow it to melt. 2) Using tongs, brown the edges of the steak until they have the amazing crust they will develop using butter because butter is fucking awesome. 3) When the edges are browned, set the steak aside and add another 1/2 stick of butter and allow to melt. 4) When the butter is melted place the steak as normal in the pan and cook that side for approximately 15 minutes. 5) After 15 minutes remove the steak from the pan and add 1/2 stick of butter and allow to melt. 6) When the butter is melted place the steak as normal in the pan and cook that side for approximately 15 minutes checking the steak during the last 5-10 minutes for your preferred level of doneness. 7) After 15 minutes remove the steak from the pan and place on a plate to rest for 15 minutes. Please refrain from using a paper plate for the love of all that is holy. 8) Carve and serve. Yes, I am leaving the 8) there instead of the 8 because the 8th step is so awesome that it deserves shades. |

Made a Chocolate Stout cake for a buddy at work that does some home brew, got to use his java stout in the recipe. Added some raspberries to cut some of the heavy chocolate flavors, turned out pretty tasty!

I agree it does somewhat look like it, however that was unintentional lol.
The portal cake looks like it has rubber balls on it and a spray coating of coffee beans |
