A hatchback would give you better utility, and a stick would do your Italian heritage proud.... and give you better gas mileage (if you shift early).
And learning stick isn't horrible. |

P.S. I learned to drive a stick while shopping for my car. The car I bought was the third car I drove I think, and I only stalled it when doing a 1235 point turn to turn around on a back road. |
