Based on what I'm seeing, its likely there will be a "resub" event in February to try to get in on the ground floor of the beta. More details as we get more news out of SOE.

I just found this on the main ps forums.  This dude live streams his Planetside sessions including ventrillo  lol.   I'm impressed.   Tigersmith has been playing this game for a couple years so he should be able to show some good killing.

A bit of backstory, there are three factions with different themes.

Terran Republic (TR) - Weapons have a high rate of fire, but each shot does low damage

New Conglomerate (NC) - Weapons have a low rate of fire, but do very high damage

Vanu Soverignty (VS) - Weapons don't excel at any particular task, but are supposed to be 'sorta good' at everything


Now, its pretty easy to balance NC against TR, lets say, balancing their empire rifles, if the TR Gun does 100 damage in 10 shots, the NC one should do 100 damage in 5 shots, both do the same DPS, and all is well.

However, its really hard to balance the VS, their rifle when the game was released might as well have been a flash light it did so little damage. It's "advantage" was that instead of carrying Armor Piercing and Anti-Infantry ammo separately, it just had alt fire modes and used one type of ammo.


When the game came out, NC was widely regarded as "Easy Mode", and generally overpowered compared to the other two factions. TR had some ridiculous things going as well, and the Vanu....well the Vanu just had their tank.


Took them 5 years to finally "balance" vanu, there were a few patches that made VS weapons way OP....and they lasted about a week before getting rolled back. And even now, the TR are more widely regarded as 'easy mode', their heavy assault weapon is just really good...and really easy to use.

So a lot of people are resubbing to PS for a shot at the beta only to face rampant hacking.    A lot of people have complained and they finally shut of trail accounts.    Dare I say progress?

I have terrible internet connection, and still have terrible commuting hours (4 1/2 hours a day en toto), so I'd rather not commit to something I can play 20 mins of before falling asleep. But still.
