This has been happening for a little while now, and I've mostly just passed it up as nothing since it didn't happen much. In recent, it has been happening a lot more frequently.
Sometimes it will be when I'm gaming, other times when I'm just browsing the net. The whole computer will shut down entirely, like no lights on the case, nothing. It will stay that way for about a second or two, then it powers itself back on, I choose to boot it up normally, and everything seems fine again. when this happens, everything else in the room stays on from what I can see. I have updated and scanned with several virus programs and from what I can tell, the machine is clean. My temps are pretty good from what I can see, I've just recently cleaned out the tower. Though I do notice that Core0 and Core1 have been heating up more than what they used to. Normally they'd stay down in the 30's, but now whenever I'm doing something, they seem to go up into the 40's, sometimes even the 50's on par with the graphics card. Is it possible that my psu isn't strong enough anymore? The only thing I really installed recently was a third hard drive. I really don't know. Any ideas? Post your full specs, and especially for your PSU, its brand

from your description and monitoring, the easiest thing to point at would be PSU.
How frequently does it happen? several times a day? Process of elimination can start with purcheeseing a new PSU and if it's still blanking out , then return it.. (no shame in that) If that doesn't work then my suspicions turn to the motherboard. third is a long shot but your CPU might not be reporting the correct temperatures. |

newegg's PSU calc says you're already like 55W over what your PSU should be capable of handling. plus i don't think i've ever heard of sigma shark before now. and if reviews on newegg are any indication, your PSU is far from the most reliable.
"Cons: It failed after 16 months. 12 volt rail could only muster 10 volts and 5 volt positive produced only 3 volts. Was causing all kinds of random crash's." "The power supply is very heavy, but not due to the internal components but instead due to the casing where they added random thick parts to make the power supply feel heavy and thus justifying the price." "Cons: Has power issues, failed within two years." "Cons: Kinda loud. Died after 6 months, and I am not drawing heavy loads against it or leaving it on 24/7" |

I've never had it happen more than once in any day. I'd say maybe 2 - 4 times a week now at max.
I actually have a new motherboard and case sitting next to me, I'm just waiting on a friend to come through with his end of a deal that should secure me some new graphics cards. I can't find my thermal compound, so that's the only thing really keeping me from switching everything over to the new board and case. If it is the psu, then I'll have to try and pull some strings to get a new one... I was thinking of upgrading to a 1000w in the future because I'm looking into doing sli/crossfire at some point soon.. EDIT: This is the psu I have currently http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817226002 (11-04-2008, 09:06 PM)Surf314 link Wrote:Joel isn't just a furry he is the furry. He's like the furry king. Most here are his subjects. yeah, vid cards that require more power is the last thing your PSU needs.

Thanks, but no thanks. According to newegg, the new cards I'll be getting will need a bit more than that. If I'm going to drop money, I might as well get it done the first time.

I'm looking at one from Antec. It fits the new case I got, and the only negative feedback is from people too stupid to read the case requirements

For the love of God, Joel, get modular power. *glances at the coil of cables in the bottom of his case* You'll thank yourself later
<+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills <@Negate> 12121212121212121212 <@Negate> there is a simple pattern <+Karrde> I changed my mind. Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD <+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself <+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some. |

[/quote] Take a good look @ the PSU pics and make sure you've got long cables, so many PSU's are woefully inadequate with the length. |

The psu is meant specifically for my case, I'm not too worried about it.
