I'm not normally one to jump on the the 'lets be the litigious America everyone knows and be sue happy' bandwagon, but A) that's not a minor incident, B) if that's the 2nd thing that happened, fuck it, and C) if they have as many material defects as you say (Especially including the fire alarms) - you need to go and report that to the local fire inspector. My cousin is the fire inspector for a major town near me, and believe me when I say if you went and personally told him that, he would click his heels together and simply be at the school before you finished the sentence.

The fire alarms are being dealt with apparently; they're in the act of replacing them and although that apparently takes months. As for the injuries, they weren't bad enough for me to go to the hospital, so without at least written confirmation from an MD, I'm not in the mood to get litigious yet.

I have, however, had to stop by the health office due to some bleeding in, ah, certain areas that I believe was caused by the sandpaper they market as toilet paper.

Seriously pretend I'm not in any way knowledgeable about this because I just know enough to be dangerous. But there is an implied warranty of habitability for your place. You don't really have any damages it sounds like (you probably couldn't get any money), but you could push for making your place habitable (performance of their obligations). You should contact student legal services if you have any more problems, you can probably get it all settled out of court and for free. And even better you will be helping some law student get some needed practical experience. A lot of people seem to look at law as a tool for extorting money from people, but a lot of it is about situations like this where you just want someone to do what they are supposed to be doing.

Yep. I just turned in my first draft of my brief - which is basically the whole point of a class. We have to pretend to petition the supreme court on a case where a tranny sees her (his) husband get hit by a car and has a heart attack. This is called negligent infliction of emotional distress, and is pretty weird already. But in Florida they are trying to make it so that you can only recover if you have a legal relationship with the victim. Since I am petitioner, not only do I have to call bullshit on that I also have to advocate for tranny marriage. It's some crazy shit. Basically you say I think this argument wins, but if it doesn't win then this argument should win.

Also the tranny marriage was legal when it happened in Maryland but Florida hasn't decided whether to recognize them yet, they absolutely don't recognize out-of-state gay marriages but trannies are a whole new kettle of dicks.
