Devils beat the Leafs in OT. Having been on quite the streak considering how the first half of the season went. I have my fingers crossed that they'll pull a comeback and make it too the play-offs.

But yeah, general sports thread. So you can talk about your sports, professional or local.

I counter your kolvachuck video with this one.

Ilya Kovalchuk Overtime Goal 2/10/11

He is becoming a more well-rounded player since we got Lamaire. I was amazed at how well he played the PK.

Personally, I don't care that there's another sports thread.  Talking hockey here and now, and I embrace that.

Leafs fan here.  Gotta say, that was a great rush by Kovalchuk last night.  He cut to the right side throughout the whole game, so I'm not sure why the Leafs were so surprised when he did it again in OT.  Reimer should have had it, but they at least got 1 point because he played solid otherwise, so I'm not going to complain.  Good on the Devils for their recent play though.  Impressive stuff.  Still, they're not going to make the playoffs.  I think tanking and grabbing a great pick this year would have done wonders for them.

I know that it is almost mathmatically impossible for them to get in the play-offs, but it's still almost. So I will hope. On the leafs though, I had to leave after the end of the second so I couldn't finish the game, but the leafs were playing well during the second. I'm surprised Kessel hasn't been able to put one in the net.

That sucks. At least you still have a great chance to make the play-offs. Just please get rid of that goon Cooke. Thanks.

That goal Kovalchuk scored against Carolina this past Wednesday was just disgusting.  Deked Corvo out of his pads, then made Ward look foolish on a wrist shot from above the circle.

Glad the Canes won tonight though, losing on Rod Brind'amour night would've been brutal

Devils are 10 pts behind the Rangers with 3 games in hand. Not a terrible place to be. On another note, I had to watch the penguins feed for tonight's game, and I have to say that they probably have the two WORST announcers in the NHL. Not only are they huge homers, but they said idiotic things such as "Steckel to the worst of that blow....We hope." Seriously!? Hoping he gets hurt because he accidentally ran into Crosby a month ago?

That being said, Kovy gets another Gamewinner. I will be ecstatic if they keep up this pace.

I'll still be proud of the team for coming so close after the first half. That being said, I really hope we get in and kick the Rangers out.  It would be THE BEST thing to use for trolling Ranger fans.

So, Chara had an absolutely brutal hit on Max Pacioretty. Got a major for interference and a match penalty. Lots of talk about how this should be dealt with (if at all). Thoughts on the situation?

Personally feel that it is just a terrible occurrence, but do not think he should get any further punishment. He was finishing a check to make sure that Pacioretty didn't get a good rush at the end of the period. I do think he deserved the interference as it was pretty late, and the match was necessary to keep order. But I doubt Chara had any intent to injure. Other than being late, it was a clean hit with very unlucky placement.

Either way, I hope Pacioretty has a speedy recovery.

Bullshit.

Sure it wasn't intentional to throw him full speed into the side of plexiglass, but there is an obvious intent to injure by pushing him over the boards. Both arms, fully extended, in the general area of the Boston bench - one of the most dangerous places to check in hockey. And after a previous game where both teams saw 5 players go to the penalty box because of a huge rivalry? It's not just coincidence.

There was not an intent to throw his head into the side of the plexiglass, but there was an intent to injure period. Throw him out for a few games when he's playing dangerous hockey.

I've always thought of Chara as a stand up guy.  And I'd like to think that he wouldn't hurt a guy on purpose....but he's staring right at the board as he checked Pacs into it.

Suspend him for the playoffs. He knew it was coming up, he raised the elbow. That's the ugly shit that taking hockey down a peg, and one hopes it's actually dealt with. Too much garbage is going on lately, and the NHL can't seem to find a pair to punish the cunts that ruin hockey.

That may be due to slow-mo, I mean did you see how quick that went down? That being said, he is definitely responsible for not paying attention to where he was on the ice (assuming there was no intent).

There was no elbow in the play though. He pushed him a bit, but that's how a good majority of checks go down. I think that if he gets a suspension it won't be more than a few games.

As for punishing cunts that ruin hockey, I'm all for it. The Ulf Samuelsson type players should be punished, they take cheap shots very often and have a lot of career threatening hits. I don't believe Chara is that kind of player though. Hockey is a physical game and things can turn out worse than you expect.
