I am 14, around this time, teachers are already urging us to know what we want to be. Does anyone else find that odd? Well, This thread isn't for homework or anything, but they did have me thinking about the future ahead. My science teacher said that there's a huge demand for engineering, but i am not sure what type of engineering is in demand, or if it is even a very fun subject at all. I think I have a general idea on what i would like to be, but I'm only 14.
What do/have you guy's major/majored in? It could be mighty helpful for me. +If you can read this, you aren't checking your back+ |

Working on earning my bachelor's in Computer Science and Cognitive Psychology.
My advice: Take a range of classes in high school. If you find a subject you think might be interesting and have a chance to take it, do so. Ever curious about rocks and such? Take geology. Want to learn how to program? Take a computer class. Want to learn about different art? Art History. Don't worry about deciding on a path yet, expose yourself to many ideas and go from there. I took CS classes and psychology classes in high school and found I was good at/interested in the subject matter. Hence why I'm here now. |

my advice is you're 14, you don't fucking need to be stressing about jobs and future this young, 16 is the MINIMUM age before you do this
hell i only chose middle of junior year and got into 9/10 of my schools (northeastern is for queers) anyways my advice again is to tell your teachers they are morons, and put some thought, but don't stress- many people go into college undeclared and find out there |

Biology (concentration in biochemistry).
In the classroom, you need good memorization and problem-solving skills. Being able to visualize 3-dimensional structures is also good. In the laboratory, you need manual dexterity and great patience. You should also be able to search and understand most scientific literature. EDIT: YES, take very very many AP courses. They'll save you from the doldrums of intro college courses and core & language requirements. Blegh. |

I manage to graduate a full year early from college because of AP credit. So what amounted to about $400 of tests saved me 1 year's tuition. |

Have an idea of an area you want to join, but don't stress over it. I must have switched my major 3 or 4 times before I finally settled on Film Production, and that was within the last 1 and a half years. Just so happens that this one stuck. I wouldn't start REALLY worrying about it until the second semester of your junior year.

I'm actually undeclared right now (freshman in college) but I've had my sights on something Bio related, specifically for Radiology. Minoring in German.
I'm not too sure, not too worried about what I'm gonna do. It is what it is. Take AP, like everyone else is saying. My high school didn't offer AP, so I was SOL. I did however, get accepted into the ONLY college I applied to. UIUC. Oh yeah, and make sure it's something you'll enjoy doing. You don't have to wake up and have sex with it every morning, but make sure you can actually live with it. Most important. You are 14 now, and engineering has been the want major for a while, it might not be when you're older. Probably not though. Engineering is boring as hell, be warned. 'Meditation is supposedly the only way to Enlightenment because the only way to find this truth is through inner reflection - therefore, what you are finding to be the truth in your personal journey should ultimately be exactly what I find to be the truth, though all of our journeys are unique.'

I was an English major, with minors in History, Music, and Theater.
Now I work in Web Design and Marketing. When you go Liberal Arts, the World is your oyster. Or you will be totally un-hireable. It's kind of a gamble. |
