ARTS is Valve's term. MOBA is pretty much the term for it, and it actually has pretty wide usage now. Basically Valve is just looking to rock the vote in coming up with it.

You guys are horribly biased because MOBA is a Riot-invented term and ARTS is literally the concatenation of the genre names Action and Real-Time Strategy.

I've seen Action RTS thrown around for HoN and DotA before DotA2 was even announced. MOBA came right about when LoL went full public.

Besides MOBA is a horrible term. I think of Bloodline Champions, since that actually takes place in an arena and is multiplayer, online, and focused on a battle.

more people tend to know the genre as moba
want any sort of cast about a dotaesque game and chances are it will be referred to as a moba
