People respond better to prosthetics that look like machinery, rather than prosthetics that look "like a real arm". Thanks to 3-D printers people can design their own fairings for their "upgraded" limbs, instead of settling for a blob of plastic in a range of 5 flesh tones.

I'm glad that 3D printing technology has made this sort of prosthetic customization more accessible. The prosthetic becomes a personal or fashion statement and is no longer simply a medical device. |
