I was going to say something about how the Stooge humor is kind of outdated and this is really the best they could've done for a feature film...but if that's the case, they shouldn't have made it.

Really. It could have been a nice series of six-minute YouTube clips. Not a feature film. D:

Just when I thought I had a chance to hang out with her not-stressed-out after finals, it turns out I leave for the airport RIGHT at the end of her last final.

So now I get to wait even more.

At least I'm thinking of doing a small get-together for new years once I fly back out here.

The original 2000 Three Stooges Movie, which tells the actual story of the quartet is one of my favorite movies of all time, despite it's flaws it's got what i seek on a movie: a touching story.

Getting bronchitis from my co-worker whom I sit next to for 40 hours a week.

Best birthday present ever.

Also sinus infection.

So I got a new CPU cooler (Cooler Master 212 Evo) and that fixed my CPU temps from being 60 degrees Celsius with no load... Around 30 now. I hope I put the right amount of thermal paste on.

Just pop it back off and check if it's coating the whole surface or splooging out the sides and spilling over the edge of the die.

It took me like 6-7 tries to finally get it right once.

Remember this post?

Yeah, after a good day of Mine-fucking-craft, the temps are back up to a ridiculous 68 degrees with 30-40% load. Hanging at around 55 degrees idle now after an hour of not doing shit on it.

I'm going to reseat the heatsink with a little less thermal grease and see if that changes anything tomorrow, but any ideas what else could be going on here?

Edit:

If it changes anything, my CPU is an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W with (as stated in the original post) a brand new Cooler Master Hyper 212+ Evo heatsink and fan. It is not overclocked.

Well Minecraft _does_ load your CPU much more than it loads your GPU...

Oh wow the fan isn't spinning and yes, it is plugged in, and yes, it was working just fine yesterday... What the shit?

I know it was spinning on the stock CPU before I replaced it, but was it spinning fast enough?

Is the motherboard fucked or is there an issue in BIOS? AUFVYBARGARHAHAETJATEJ

Look in your fan monitor in your BIOS to see if you have Q-Fan (or something similar) enabled, and to see if the mobo is sensing fan speed at all, instead of booting all the way to windows to bitch about it. Your CPU's gonna fry if you don't fix it, son.

I'm a little too lazy to look up what power scheme your cooler uses, does it have a molex connector for the fan or is it using the motherboard cpu fan header?

How is the fan's speed controlled? Externally with a knob, temp sensor on the cooler or automatically? (using the header on the motherboard)

Personally I've always been partial to coolers where you have an external knob to control the fan with, I can simply ramp the fan to 100% before I start loading the CPU and I know for certain the cooler is operating at 100% of it's ability when it's needed.

I've gotten my 1090T up to like 58C just playing Minecraft, so that's not too insane, but idling at 60 is a little absurd.

I faintly remember you posting what case you have, is it one of the cases with a side-mount fan that's almost the size of the side panel? That sort of fan could very well interrupt the airflow the CPU cooler is relying on to operate properly, and even stop it from operating properly at all.

Was it a BE? Those have always been prone to getting mad hot. I think the danger zone is like 85 for them.

way back when, I remember my AthlonXP used to idle at 79C, scared the crap out of me.  Damn chip ran pretty much non-stop for 3 years (as in there was a voltage leak on that particular board that would cause the video card not to work for awhile if I turned it off, so I never did so).  Before I replaced it.  I barely had to heat my living room during the winter.

I put my StarCraft CD way back when behind a AthlonXP tower @ a cramped LAN party in my buddy's basement so many years ago, it melted the side that opened so bad it fused the front panel to the side, had to pop it open with a knife.

It's plugged directly into the motherboard (into the CPU_FAN header, checked to make sure). It's a PWM fan, so it's controlled automatically by the motherboard.

When I reboot the computer, the mobo starts beeping at me (4 long) and I get a matching CPU Fan error. Retested the old fan, and it works.

So did the new fan just die on me after a day?

???

See my comments in IRC. Quit yer bitchin and return or replace the fan already. You've done about $40 worth of bitching about a $10 component that protects your $150 component from lighting. itself. on. fire.
