When I reboot the computer, the mobo starts beeping at me (4 long) and I get a matching CPU Fan error. Retested the old fan, and it works.
So did the new fan just die on me after a day?

Also get one that's externally controlled pl0x. Then you can give the CPU more cooling than the slow ramp up that auto fans have at any given point. A.K.A. a cooler CPU and a longer lasting CPU.

I'm going to call the store and see if I can't do a partial swap for the fan/heatsink since getting the backplate on and off is a bitch.

I'm not sure if the store has CPU coolers that are externally controlled. Wouldn't just setting the fan speed to 100% and disabling "cool 'n' quiet" and whatnot have the same effect?

Was finally going to get the last achivement i need to complete The Binding of Isaac at 100% (Finish Depths without getting hit), had an awesome set, full fly shield, bible in hand, about to fight against mom.  Think to myself "Man, those Tweetdeck updates are blocking my view, time to get serious". Alt-Tab the thing, procede to close Tweetdeck. Watch in despair when i noticed i closed Binding of Isaac instead.

Fry's won't let me do a partial swap, so just switching the $10 faulty component won't work...

So either I have to remove the whole heatsink and return it, or I go and buy a replacement fan for $15.

Missed a final because I accidentally switched two dates when I was copying down my schedule. The professor already said that there would be no make-ups. I will no doubt lose my scholarship now. Also, it's going to be very hard to face my parents during Christmas now. 

Still E-mailed the Professor to see if there is anything I could do, but she hasn't replied. I'm fucked hard right now.

It was a departmental exam. I'm pretty sure my chances of getting a make-up is slim to none. Either way, thanks for the advice, it's worth a shot.
