because (brbu) self-quotes, especially steam exchanges, are almost never funny to anyone but the person posting them

Here's why self-quoting is discouraged by some:

If you think that your dialogue with someone else is so fucking funny, then logic would dictate that the third party who is laughing his or her ass of after witnessing the exchange would post it.

If someone else doesn't post your "funny chat," that's reality's way of telling you that maybe you are not as funny as you think you are. So, if you are going to ignore what reality is telling you then you better be sure that it is a fucking funny quote. Otherwise it may appear to others as if you were masturbating in public.
