Looking into getting a router to run multiple devices off of.  I know ppl will say a gateway PC, but don't wanna spend the money and I don't really have the space for an additional box in this space.  my friend recc'd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...20WNDR4500 . Thoughts or other recs?

<+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills

<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

ASUS actually makes some pretty solid kit, and if you contacted them for a warranty problem I'm sure they'd be willing to help you out. Don't blame them for you being lazy Tongue

only problem is that I can't really prove that it's the motherboard. It's rather intermittent and I don't have the gear to troubleshoot it really.

then again, it could be my GPU or my windows install.
I'm going to try to update my graphics drivers again one more time before I nuke this windows install and rebuild that. Then I think I'll give asus a call and see what they would recommend.
Most of my blue screens 19 out of 46 over the last two years, have been caused by ntoskrnl.exe. some by ntfs.sys, some by dxgkrnl.sys. I could go on and on with the incidents I've had with this computer. Memcheck ran for a day or so with no errors. Really the only thing I can think of is the mobo, the gpu, or my windows install.

I haven't been able to update my graphics drivers for a while now. ATI installer simply fails. No specific error. I should write a thread about all of it, but there's like 5 of us who read the computers thread..

But us 5 would be the ones who you'd want to read it.

If there's so many system BSOD's as well as something like the ATI installer issue, it could very well be a corrupted install.

Also, these BSOD's - Randomly like sometimes you're using it and other times you've been afk for hours and it BSOD's idling? Or just when you're using it? (Roundabout PSU possibility elimination question)

Sometimes it's a boot up bsod
sometimes I'll have been using the computer for 5 hours playing dota 2 or bf3, I'll exit and go to chrome. BSOD.
I still remember it started first when I had gone away from my computer for a week. Had been running flawlessly before then. Now it seems to more frequently bsod when I don't have my computer on for day or so. Doesn't make any sense to me at all.

other incidents include booting up to desktop to see every program i have installed force closing and steam telling me it's install is corrupt. reboot, everything is fine.

that's what i don't understand. It has to be software because rebooting a few times fixes it for the most part, but why would not booting up for a few days make it act up?

Go grab HDTune or another program that can read hard drive SMART values, see if it's got any flags raised. While you're at it, see if your SATA cables are seated firmly. SATA cables by spec are only designed for something like 30 plug/unplug cycles before the pins lose sufficient spring tension to create a proper connection, a poorly seated cable could do all this easy, and even the slightest misalignment can be enough to throw a SATA cable out of whack.

When you ran memtest, did you pull sticks and test one at a time, or all at once?

I was having symptoms mirroring yours exactly for a while, I did memtesting extensively for a few days and I only twice did it find any errors, one each from two sticks respectively. I replaced all 4 sticks of RAM (go go perfect excuse to get faster/more RAM) and everything has been kosher since. The two sticks that were bad ran through probably 40 hours of memtesting without popping an error at all.

Still blaming hardware, btw.

yeah i ran memtest when they were all plugged in simply because i didn't think it would matter either way
my sata cables are fine, I double checked them when I plugged in my fourth drive.
i'll see if hdtune can pick up something on the HDD anyway HDtune says it's all healthy there.

i tried updating ati drivers again, everything installed properly but the display driver which simply failed.

memory should be the proper timing, although it was poorly documented.

I've also had a problem with this computer every time I pick it up and move it to go to a lan or something, I'll have to open up the case, take the graphics card out, and put it back in or it won't display video. The system will boot up, and it won't beep code that the GPU is missing, but the display won't turn on until I reseat it.

Try a different graphics card, if that still misbehaves then quit stalling and contact customer support from ASUS for chrissakes. The most its going to take is an hour of your time, and the worst they're going to say is "No, you can't have a free new motherboard".

If you're willing to spend the time, do memtesting on each stick one by one. The reasoning is that if one stick is bad, when you're memtesting just one that one stick it will have more time under the hammer than if you had all 4 sticks in at once, more constant workload and more opportunities to throw the error.

The two sticks of mine that were bad that survived like 40 hours+ of memtesting did so when I was testing all 4 at once. Also makes it easier to figure out what stick threw the error if/when one does pop.

Just ordered a terabyte external and a new GPU. At least I think I did, the order didn't show up on my account yet for some reason.

Once I get that, I'm going to backup an reinstall windows. I need to pull data off of two hard drives and RAID them because one of them is being underutilized.

So, once I get a new windows install in, that will rule out shitty install, gpu, and for the most part, HDD and memory is already checked off my list. So, if it were to happen again, it's definitely the motherboard.

This.  Had a few setup issues, but everything's golden now.  I'm guessing most of the issues ppl had with it were they either 1. Had no idea what they were doing, or 2. Tried to make it do something it wasn't meant to do.
