A Christmas story is too close to my heart.

follow up question: is groundhogs day relevant in canada or even europe?
The fact that the movie takes place on groundhog day is irrelevant, it's nothing more than a macguffin for the story.
False, any other holiday and it would be a different movie. Thematically it is consistent with the story. It's a shitty, hokey event that no one takes seriously yet is still reported on every year even though no one cares. That shows how crappy he feels his life is up to that point, he has to go to some stupid town and report some stupid event that no one cares about. Then there is the theme behind the actual event - if the groundhog sees its shadow then there is more winter, if not winter is over. That represents his own shadow which he needs to get away from to start a new life where he can be happy.

Groundhog day is some deep shit.
Never thought of it like that. I always assumed that because it was such a random crappy holiday just proved it didn't really matter what day it was. It could've been Arbor Day, or Earth Day, or Labor Day or whatever, but the fact of the matter is he's stuck living the same day over and over again. I never really caught that he thought his life was crap up to that point, he just struck me as an asshole who's given the chance to turn a new leaf. Personally I thought the theme of the movie is that anyone can feel stuck living the same day over and over (like a dead-end job). It's represented literally in the movie which is kind of the beauty of it. Bill Murray's character could live forever, just doing the same Groundhog Day routine over and over (Broadcast -> Diner -> Attempt to leave -> etc) in hopes that it would eventually just stop, *spoilers if you haven't seen the film yet*
but instead he uses the phenomenon to better himself as a person and essentially becoming a selfless town hero of sorts.
But what you said makes just as much sense.

What would make you want to move to america/canada respectively and what would make you not want to?

bonus question for vongore:
would you rather live in the states or canada?

I'll answer that from a european perspective, Canada because that's where my girlfriend is from but I'm too socially liberal/economically left for north America anyway, if our government goes on for another term I might think about moving to another european country, maybe Sweden or if I found a job that I can do from anywhere, get a place in Italy that looks out over the Mediterranean sea, enjoy that lifestyle (best food and drink on earth) and ignore politics/economics until the end of my days.

Goddangit Europe, how come everything over there is BEAUTIFUL?!
Because it hasn't been trashed by apathetic Americans yet.

Yet.
and here I thought western Americans cherished our wilderness. I think you just disappointed merc, karth.
The American continent is beautiful when it comes to nature, I just like to live in older cultures.
Must be nice. Guess I'm a little sore over still living in Arziona, the desert of America. Especially after having visited Monterey and San Francisco this summer.
Desert Beats crumbling urban areas.

Fuck Cleveland.
The parts I saw in cleveland were very nice. It's a lot cleaner and its road system is way better than an old city like philly.
Old City is very relative, I've lived in 600 year old buildings but my city is not really car friendly, it's very cycle friendly and our transit system isn't bad at all though.

The movie or the day? The day doesn't exist here but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist in England, cultural differences between European countries are much more pronounced than between US states.

Does this phrase make any sense to anyone?

"What if I'll be your slave in the game [L4D]?"

I thought the game was about the undead ???

If money and stability would not be an issue, what would you do as a dream job?

I realize there aren't many lands to be explored nowadays (except under the sea) but I'd like to go to places in the wilderness where not many people have been to explore and search for rare animals

Open a restaurant or bakery

Game shoutcasting looks pretty cool as well, but probably wouldn't keep that up past 40 or so.

Same for me. I'd want to open a chicago style hot dog stand. Nothing fancy.

I would have an occult shop.

I'd have like the coolest occult shop ever. All hard wood shelves and floors, old armchairs and rugs, tables where you can come and read, little coffee shop or something inside, and I'd sit behind a desk like Dan Akroyd, looking over old occult books and shit. I'd do readings and just have a blast.

I'd love to design characters for games and movies.

I'd love to be recognized on any media, specially economics. I want to have my own office so people can  pay me for investing advices.

Also, Journalism, but i've got such a love/hate relationship with the area i don't know i could consider it my "dream job" (And "pro" gaming journalism is awful and i would hate to have to deal with those pretentious fucks. Clear example: Sterling. Every single media's got their own Sterling, even here.)

In a drunken conversation with some friends we did actually think about making a combination grocery/gun store and name it Guns and Butter.
