UPDATE - DOWNER AHOY - SHIT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE:

I'm out of the anger and the sadness phases...

By the time i got in on tuesday, his speech and cognition had deteriorated to the point where the tape was a no go. I said my peace and all of the business we need to get done is done, no need to worry or regret.

I did a vigil watch last night so my mother could get some sleep. Worst fucking night of my life, full stop. He was in agony, he was restless, he was calling out. This will not be soon forgotten.

From what I hear, he is declining and losing responsiveness. I took care of his bed at home today. We may not take him home to pass b/c if he codes in the ambulance (1.5 hour ride, across state lines too), then the DNR does not apply and they would have attempt to resuscitate. I hope this means that he isn't in as much pain now. Right now, I just want his suffering to stop.

As i was typing this, i got news that he just passed, i need to stop now

As horrible a thing as this is Pie, you can at least take some solace in the fact he's no longer suffering.

My grandfather was a master electrician for many years and had much exposure to asbestos, the end of his life was markedly horrible. He suffered a great bout of pneumonia in his final weeks and did not get to die peacefully or gracefully, and I had the.... timing to be there as he faded away for the last time.

As I watched him go, one emotion I felt quite strongly was happiness, I knew he was no longer laboring to take every breath, no longer not able to even move a limb or turn his head to even acknowledge us in the room.

He's not suffering any more. That's something to be thankful for. And he held in long enough for you to get there, which is pretty awesome. That's something else to be thankful for. Keep strong buddy, and we'll be here when you get back.

Same boat as Kirby, my grandfather was a mechanic, so he also had prolonged asbestos exposure. He was in a battle for almost 5 years with mesothelioma, and we went into every major holiday wondering if it was going to be the last one with him around. Things started to look up, but then he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. About a week later, he had passed. It was upsetting, but to know that he didn't have to go through all the chemo, the treatments, the drugs, and the pain anymore, and we all knew that was taking a toll on him. It was good to know that burden was finally lifted after so long.

You have my condolences, man. Mourn as you need to...but do take the time to reflect on his life and what difference he's made in this world. Feel happy that he no longer has to suffer with the constant pain. Be proud of whatever knowledge and experiences he's passed to you and others.

Christ Pie. Sorry man. There's not much I can add to what everyone else is saying, but know at least he isn't suffering anymore.

My dad goes in for surgery tomorrow. As some of you know, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer about a month ago. We'll be at the hospital all day. Fuck cancer, seriously.

Hyperextended my knee the other day. Went into the doctor to see what was wrong. They did an MRI and found my ACL was torn, and has been torn for some time now. I have to go into surgery sometime in the next couple weeks to get it fixed... And then start a year long recovery process that'll severely limit my mobility... So much for surfing this summer. Sad

Fuck, you were walking around with a torn ACL? Didn't that, like, hurt?  Best of luck with the recovery though, and be sure that you go to all your reahab sessions.  Or I will hunt you down...and force you to go to all your rehab sessions.

It was either that or hiking. Doctor said I did it a few years ago by how it looks, so I'm not sure how I torn it.

It only would hurt when I hyperextended (bend in the wrong direction) my knee. Which didn't happen very often, but very excruciatingly painful when I did.

I hope that surgery will pay off in the long run and that you don't end up re-tearing it somehow.

I had that happen to me. We just had 1 actor play 3 different roles... Made for some interesting shots and editing.
