It was just a DJ set. IM was there, but no drummer, guitarist, or live vocals.

yeah i hate hate hate the tenure system.  One of my friends failed her prelim exam because a prof on her panel has hated my friend's boss since before she was even hired.  It probably doesn't help that my friend's prof has lots of funding, while the hater doesn't have any.  So yeah, she just fucking failed her and got away with it, since the other two professors on the panel are brand new hires.  And the hater prof can just stay here for fucking forever, taking up space and just shitting up the program.  HOOK EM HORNS

Apparently not.  She's decided to just apply to a diff department in the school.  Kinda sucks because it'll set her back a semester, but I think she can keep working in the lab for the rest of that time, so it won't really set her back.

Sure, a single prof can kill your career, but another can resurrect it :p

Oh! Yes! That game is terrible!! I own it because I got it for free; when I was at PAX East last year, I interviewed the designers, and they gave me retails codes to do a review. I never actually wrote the review because I felt so bad about how awful it would have to be.

They aren't getting rid of it, just gutting it and taking away all the research and crap. It sucks, but it also sucks that the state keeps cutting our funding. So I dunno what the University should do TBH. Maybe gut liberal arts instead?

Also the athletic budget is separate, so its not like one is being stolen for the other.

Yes, they are.  When a department no longer exists, that constitutes "getting rid of it"

just gutting it and taking away all the research and crap.

That crap is what attracts decent professors.  Rolling computer science into other departments will happens like this: you'll have a little bit of Java, and some procedural programming in the physics and/or math departments.  I've been subjected to that, I already knew Java before taking the computational physics class, they managed to make me unlearn most of Java, it was an absolutely horrible class.  The super low level intro to office, database (MS access) and "web development" (LOL 2 credit hours of Html) will be moved to the business school, except when they dropped the graduate program in CS, there is now no one left to teach it.  Roll some graphic design stuff in to Fine Arts, which will subtly shift from "how to create in this design suite" to "that's solid design but it doesn't twang my artistic string, F" -they're taking the instruction of computer science out of the hands of computer scientists.  Which while completely screwing the CS majors (I mean, really, what are these guys going to do?), also screws the rest of the school who relies on that department for subject matter expertise.

Sounds like it's time to raid the cookie jar.  I'm sure the board of directors could, if they wanted to, granted someone would probably sue though.  I often wonder how people forget it's a School.
