I think there is a difference between "dumb" and "willful ignorance." Some people are truly dumb, meaning that they are ignorant, but lack the capacity to go beyond that.

I fully agree with the last two sentences of your statement though.

I sometimes think that the "pursuit of happiness" may directly be in conflict with "the pursuit of knowledge." Hell if I know whether this is actually the case or if there is any way to resolve that or if one is actually more valid than the other.
