The only reason he put it out (judging from the dialogue in the video) was because it was on his land. So instead of being Good Honest 'Murricans, they just come across as dumbass rednecks. Actually, my point was a bit more subtle than that. The shooter is firing a flare at night over woodlands. He seems to be playing around with the flare (possibly firing one for the first time) without having a good understanding of how long the flare will burn, where the wind might take it, how far it might travel, or if it will still be burning when it hits the ground. When he fires it, he's not even sure if it will land on his property or not. And they are clearly on terrain where it's a challenge to traverse. To boot, he doesn't even have any fire extinguishing tools greater than his boots. To me, that's analogous to someone target plinking with .22LR in their backyard with no backstop. Or worse, shooting aerial targets. Or firing rounds in the air. That's irresponsible use of firearms with potential dire consequences to other people who are minding their own business on their own land. Personally, I don't see the humor in that, but others might vary. Hell, I think flying taxidermied cats are a wistful remembrance, so my moral compass might be skewed. |

[/quote] And I don't necessarily disagree. However, in this particular case, those dangers really aren't there. (Ok, to a certain extent they are) If you're firing a .22lr into the air or out with no backstop, it can be a problem if you have neighbors. However, if you're on your own property and you have nobody or nothing around for miles and the area affected is only land you own, by all means have a little fun. The only person that you're going to hurt is yourself. Now if this had all happened on main street, then you're absolutely right and I wouldn't be laughing and posting the youtube vid. 11:35 Socks Greatbacon_work: Just accept the idea of enemas. |
