While EA focuses on one industry, video games, it is still a conglomerate, having divisions and sub-companies in nearly everything except for hardware (eg. their own console). Now there's not necessarily anything wrong with some of this, Nintendo comparably does hardware and has its own (and several other) development studios. But the problem with EA and where it is different, that company listed on the market is effectively just a holding firm. The problem with a holding firm is if one division suffers a massive loss, it can contaminate profits from others. Let say Bioware was independent, and DA2 and ToR were huge failures, very big losses, they would fold up shop, and other studios like say Maxis or Westwood wouldn't even skip a beat. Now where you have Bioware tied to those other studios, suddenly it hits the bottom line of the holding company where everything flows to. Now you have the other divisions propping up a failing one or making up for the failure. As an investor if I want a 'game developer' portfolio, I can go buy stock in several studios and build my portfolio and risk exposure exactly how I want them to be, if I buy stock in a holding company, they make that decision for me, and its not always going to be the one I am going to be pleased with. There is definitely value to horizontal or vertical integration, but with respect to the gaming industry and without going too far in depth, it is not something investors value and each acquisition can actually detract from the overall value to shareholders. </Investing Knowledge Lesson> [/quote] Shit, -50 dollars for EA shares? I'll take ALL OF THEM. |

Finally sitting here in my Chicago apartment after 5 days of crushing stress and near meltdowns. It's nowhere near over yet, but it's getting sorted out. A week I will never forget, for sure. And this was pretty nice to catch after setting up my wireless adapter.

Played with my cousin's one year old for an hour or so today.
Tossed a ball at her that she'd miss catching and chase around. Also taught her that the gaps in the backs of the dining room chairs are big enough in some places to put the ball through, so she spent a while experimenting with that. She's so cute :3 |

I bought a new car! I had help from well knowing family members, so I got a decent price and a co-sign on a loan which I can pay off whenever I feel like so I can build up my credit and have money to exist.
It is a 2009 Nissan Altima with 16.6k miles and a couple dings, little scratched paint and a foot long scratch mark on one side that isn't noticeable at first glance. So happy to have my first car. |

This happened on Friday, so a little outdated but it still made my day. I realized that GOG has all the old Might and Magic RPGs (not Heroes). MM I - VI are all included in one collector's edition for like $9. I used to play this game with my friend all the time when I was younger so I nostalgia'd big time. Even though some of the graphics and game play might be a bit outdated, IV - VI are some of the best western RPGs of all time and you can literally spend 100+ hours playing through all the quests and exploring all the difference locations. I'll be in my bunk.

Judge Posner just made my day -
Quote:Itâs not as if nominal damages were compensation for a nominal harm. They are a symbolic recognition of a wrong that produced no harm, though it may have infringed a right. You canât go into federal court and say you had a contract with X and X broke it and youâre really annoyed even though you sustained no injury of any sort (in fact you made money because you re-contracted at a higher price) so please give me a judgment for $1 that I can pin on my wall. |
