I often wonder what it would be like living in a culture in which alcohol is so much more ingrained. I'm almost certain that I inherited alcohol flush reaction from my Asian mother and despite being about 6' I never make it out of the single digits in drinks. It's not that I give up or get too drunk, I just puke way way before I black out because I've grown up with a sensitive gag reflex/stomach.

You're "allergic" to alcohol aka alcohol intolerance. Like my mom (Asian) who was diagnosed as lacking the particular enzyme which helps break down ethanol. Just drink really slowly and your body will break it down eventually.
I'm lucky (or unlucky? I can probably live a healthier life sans drinking) enough to be Asian and not ALDH2 deficient.

Also like, getting out of the single digits for drinks usually requires
1) large body mass
2) time
or
3) disregard for reality

No idea whether this matters, but my thai classmate gets very red when he has a single glass of beer.  But, he did a shot of jameson with us, and he didn't get red... so... uh, it could be something with the beer, rather than the "active ingredient"

So I played Settlers of Catan as a drinking game with my roommates this weekend.

The rules were pretty straightforward.

For every victory point you get, take a drink.
If you get a resource stolen from you, pick someone to drink.
If you roll a 2 or a 12, finish your drink. (Because really, who builds on a 12?)

There might have been some other minutia, but these were the big three.

The best part was though, is that everyone rolled a 2 or a 12 except one of my roommates, who rolled 7 12s.  That is to say rolled 12 seven times.  (Best part was I had two settlements on the twelve.  Wood baron ahoy!)

I also know people who are significantly smaller than me and can drink more drinks quicker. I do have to drink slowly or else my stomach gives in before I even really feel it. I'm sort of a time-bomb drinker. I'll drink four or five beers over an hour and feel very little other than stomach bloating. Then I stop drinking and progressively feel more tipsy.
