Had to stop at Walmart earlier. Got asked at the door if I was interested in signing up for food stamps. Told the lady no because I had a sense of self respect.

As I was walking through the parking lot, I almost had my foot run over by a morbidly obese woman riding a scooter while smoking a cigarette. 11:35 Socks Greatbacon_work: Just accept the idea of enemas. |

My dog is dead. I got to say goodbye, but it didn't make it much easier. Once I got home, I looked for her in the usual spots out of habit.

update: As dozens of Eagle Scouts resign, Boy Scouts of America ignores them. "Deron Smith, the Boy Scouts' national spokesman, said there was no official count at his office of how many medals had been returned."

"Deron Smith, the Boy Scouts' national spokesman, said there was no official count at his office of how many medals had been returned."$0.02 Edit: It's obvious the organization doesn't care. So all these people are taking something they worked hard and long for- an accomplishment that is held in high regard in this society, and they are casting it off. By doing so they're accomplishing nothing, the organization isn't going to change over it. They can take a picture and turn their gesture into karma on reddit, or more nobly, do it in silence without the promise of attention, just for the sake of the act. If it means as much to someone to no longer be an eagle scout, as it did to become one originally, then by all means they should do it. But, eagle scouts can still be proud of their accomplishment- it doesn't matter what being an eagle scout means to the organization, or the rest of the world, what matters is what it means to each individual eagle scout. Once you've earned a title, you quit being defined by it- you start defining it, because you are it. So work to give it the meaning you want it to have. It could be said that the organization is no longer worthy of an individual's association with it, but if someone thought like that, I doubt it meant that much to that person in the first place, so why go through the trouble of postage? Maybe you can see my consternation at the however large (or small) number of individuals who have decided to try to change an organization for the better, by no longer having any part of it. That only works if they're the problem. |

I hear you, and I'm not going to disagree with you when viewed from the perspective of an individual holder of an Eagle Scout honor. From that angle, it reminds me of the much-ado in 2004 about Sen. John Kerry throwing away his military medals - his purple heart. As I've said before on this story, there is much to be gained by good individuals inside working for change. On that, we agree. That said, there's also something to be said for the view from the outside. And from the outside the BSA is increasingly looking like an organization that does not care about a large swath of their highest achievers. This is a group that have spent the better part of their formative years totally devoted to unlocking every achievement and catching all the poke-merit-badges in the Boy Scouts. This is their hardcore user base. When an organization visibly and knowingly runs from their hardcore base, that's a notable development. Also, all this publicity has lead to this: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-...lanowpicks |

Straggly looking cat perused the family backyard during dinner. Sad thing was scrawny and looked desperate to get out of the heat, but we couldn't risk infection to our other kitties and it ran off after a short while. I hope it'll find some relief soon, but I know it very well might not survive, such a bad feeling.

Got stiffed a 4th time by this girl I've been crushing over. Every time I ask to do something with her she says she'd love to, and then go do something with someone else. Makes me feel hated... And I'm really trying hard not to cry right now.

You're not being hated. She's just being inconsiderate and rude... Not worth the tears, in my opinion. Feels bad though. |
