This conversation reminds of a bit of wisdom a family friend shared with me once. I'm paraphrasing but basically it went something like:

Any woman worth damn is going to have other men in her life. Focus on improving yourself and becoming the most attractive (not necessarily physically) option instead of pining away and worrying about all the whatifs.

I think it stuck with me not only because it made a lot of sense, but also because it encourages you to do something positive with all the uncertainty instead of dwell on it. I think it more or less works both ways as well.
