There are a lot of BRBuers on the east coast. I'd rattle them off, but I know I'm going to forget some. I worry about you guys. Stay safe everybody, batten down the hatches and hope the internet & power doesn't go out. I was going to create this thread so that people could post if they're getting screwed, but I'm guessing posting here will be most peoples' last priority

Well, work is cancelled. My boss shall know me as the idiot who emailed him to check if we had work the day of a hurricane (in my defense I had no idea we had webmail access).
Anyhow, not too bad so far here. Power still in place, and it's just windy and a bit wet. Hasn't quite hit full force yet, kinda nervous for that. |

Just head to the pub and wait for all of it to blow over, if you aren't in the immediate vicinity of the coast or in a low lying area, you're probably fine. Though you may lose power for a few days.
Step 1 - Invest money in burying power lines Step 2 - Don't bitch about the upfront infrastructure costs Step 3 - Enjoy power not going out during severe weather
I know, it's an argument that's been going on out here for years. People want the lines buried, but don't want the rate hikes associated with infrastructure investment, to the point that it's against the law to hike rates for infrastructure. Result: deregulated energy companies refuse to invest in infrastructure to protect bottom line, low energy cost, but no energy when there's a storm. And then they sue the power company for taking too long to turn it back on / not being 'prepared' with 'out of state crews'. Dafuq are you going to find a crew from when the entire east coast has the same problem? "If you want to be a Double E, bend over and grab your knees...." All mass transit in my area is shut down, I couldn't go to work even if tried (or wanted to, heh). Working from home today, we'll see how tomorrow is, too.

Yep mass transit is down, declared state of emergency and my company is still open. Thankfully they are allowing working from home so I'm out of here in a few. Stocked up on nonperishables/water on Saturday so I'm not too worried about that. Laughed when I saw that Costco was completely out of bottled water (still manage to get some so no big). It gon get windy, boys.

It's 78 degrees out and perfectly clear, likely with a nice breeze to go with it. What great weather to be outside.
I'll be staying in my room in a show of support to east coast BRBUers in this time of great danger and wetness. That's my reason and I'm sticking to it. |
