Watched Looper and I thought it was pretty intense.  Wasn't the movie I thought it was gonna be, but I think it is better for that.

So I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I can honestly say that the weirdest thing about that miserable fucking movie was seeing Cameron Diaz in it.

And then I was told to view In Bruges without being told what sort of movie it was.

It's a (really) dark tragi-comedy with some great performances. I haven't seen anything quite like it and it's a pretty twisted movie in its juxtapositions on all levels. I enjoyed it and I would recommend watching it, given an appropriate mindset.

I loved Django Unchained but I don't see it getting best picture.

To be fair, all the supporting actor noms on there are pretty goddamn good.

Javier Bardem also got snubbed.

So hard to care about the Oscars, when such opulence is an affront to common sense and decency.

Saw 'John Dies at the End'. Wonderfully refreshing occult-comedy.
Plus Jimmy Wong is in it. Who doesn't like Jimmy Wong?

Pretty excited for this but I'm waiting to see it in a theater. I remember reading it when it was up on PWOT years ago.

Jackson's Stephen will be memorable for the next 50 years as a prototypical portrayal of how a self-serving outlook can mundanely turn into evil. If you want to be fair, what nominee is going to be remembered that long?

The Oscars have a long and storied career of not recognizing a true great performance when it happens, and then trying to make it up years later to the actor/actress when they get nominated for a lesser performance.

Yeah, because the Oscars are a load of bullshit politics and most people don't like to admit it. It's an event to hate, but deep down everyone wants an Oscar. It's just natural.

Does not winning an award for Django make Samuel L. Jackson's performance any worse? Of course not. I'm angry that Jack Black didn't get a nomination for Bernie and that Moonrise Kingdom didn't get a nod for cinematography or soundtrack. But that doesn't make either movie lesser. Look at Hitchcock. For 40 years he made some great movies and got a grand total of 6 nominations, never winning a single award for The 39 Steps, Vertigo, Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, Rope, or any other legendary film. And you know what? He's still considered one of the most influential directors to ever grace film.

You are moving the goalposts. First you said it was ok that Jackson didn't get nominated because the nominees are "pretty goddamn good." Now you are saying he didn't get nominated because of the bullshit politics of the academy.

His performance was great, he got robbed.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I never said that Samuel didn't get nominated because of bullshit politics, only that that's what the oscars are and no one should really take them seriously.

Every performance on the Supporting list IS fantastic and if Sammy J replaced someone on there, that person would be robbed too.

Django was good but it felt weird. Like watching a revenge fantasy intended for a completely different group of people(guess who).

Watched "Wristcutters: A Love Story" last night
Was actually a great film. Would highly recommend unless you're lonely and depressed. In such a case I would not recommend any love stories or such like that.

I agree, I saw it in the theater and my Melanin content was a little below average

I need more modern-day supernatural movies like Constantine,
where a normal person is caught up in a war between heaven and hell sorta stuff
or street-gangs with magic powers (ie a voodoo gang vs a witches coven)
I just grabbed Night Watch and Day Watch, which kinda fit into the latter category.

Any reccomendations?
