Close.

Between Work and Love, you fear you will always choose Work. Because it is reliable and you can control it.

So... one of the consultants (these guy do the EXACT SAME JOB as me but my 3x as much) I work with threw an opportunity my way, because I expressed exactly how much I am displeased with the company I work for.  I respond, talk to a recruiter, I'm a shoe in, they schedule a phone interview with the client for monday as a sanity check for me.  I haven't even sent them a resume at this point.  I send it on up, and then get another phone call.  "we didn't know you were working for XXXXXX currently."  "The project is 4 weeks from completion (which lines up perfectly with start of the project this recruiter is working on), my continued relationship onto the next project is contingent on a raise that I don't believe is going to happen"  "Let me talk to our senior recruiter."

"Yeah man, I'm sorry, as long as you're with them, we can't touch you, I'm not even supposed to be talking to you."

So, the douchenozzle company I work for not only pays me and my coworkers shit, abuses the crap out of us, but they have non-poach agreements with everyone in the industry it seems (this is not the first time I've heard "yeah, we can't fucking hire you right now").  This just cost me a 175% raise, and instead of flying in on sunday and out on saturday I could fly in on monday out on thursday.  I'm about to tee off on someone.

I think I'm just going to quit.  It's ballsy and it's dumb, but I don't think I'm going to get around the fear this large, shitty company strikes into consultancy firms any other way.

Before you quit, double check your noncompete. They're usually not worth the paper they're printed on, but you may end up not able to get hired in the same industry in the same area up to two years _AFTER_ quitting that job because of that shit.

I never signed a noncompete.  I'm guessing they don't think they need them, since they seem to have non-poaching agreements with everyone in the industry.

When I asked, the firm with the offer stated there wasn't a cooldown period on their agreement as long as I wasn't employed there anymore.

I suppose even after my rants on how it should not be acceptable for children to play games like CoD just because they are popular my mom decided it was a good idea to get my 10 year old brother Black Ops 2.

It could have at least been a QUALITY game that was not appropriate for him. But no.

My suggestion is to quickly expose him to better inappropriate games post-haste.
That's what I did with Swain.

OK, so given that I think you're not old enough to vote, now I'm really unclear on how old Swain is.  I now imagine that we're playing TF2/Payday/etc with a very articulate 10 year old.

I'm 19, Swain is a few years younger for the ballpark. I'll let him post his age if he's comfortable with it.

I work for a satellite TV company that uses Dish Networks as our channel provider and distribute through the properties we service, this is a QAM set up, QTMs are pieces of equipment that decode satellite signals from a transponder and deliver channels associated throughout based on a specific frequency.

As you all know the NHL is back. One of the areas we provide services to is areas within the Detroit viewing area (or nearby), thus Fox Sports Detroit is a common channel for us.

One of the properties that we provide services to, the QTM that handles the frequency that delivers Fox Sports Detroit in High Definition has failed... and will probably not be fixed until tomorrow... yay for pissed off hockey fans.

I can understand their consternation, they missed watching their team rape the kings in HD.  I'd be pissed too.

In other news, I realized I'd be flying into FUCKING MINNEAPOLIS; THE EPICENTER OF SUCK during the superbowl.  FUCK YOU COMPANY THAT PAYSUNDERPAYS ME.

Had a real shit night at work dealing with an employee who hadn't been trained how to do her job.  Get out 45 minutes late because of it.

While driving home, I think to myself "At least I can just go home and watch the Hurricanes game and have a couple beers"  I had specifically turned off my phone to avoid any news of the game.

I walk in the door, first fucking thing my mother says "So they lost"

At least I still have my beer.

And the fucking new girl who hadn't been trained properly...she fucking said she was possessed by a demon, and that her sister saw her levitating, but now God is driving the demon away, or something.

Coming back from a location scout and was going down a hill. Sun was in my eyes and when I went into the shadows there happened to be a minivan right in front of me. I panicked and hit the brakes too hard, causing the car to swerve out of control. Slid into the back of the minivan, and then rolled about 6 or 7 times before coming to a stop.

Rolled it? Damn, thats a lucky thing to walk away from, I was a passenger in a car that got it from behind and drove us into the median once, that was a scarry moment but not nearly as bad I assume as rolling.
