I'm pretty sure "hood rat" is racially neutral. But.  After polling, that would not be a general consensus.  I'm told the whitey version is "white trash"  So, can we conjoin the two and just start called black people who behave similarly and white people who behave similarly both "hood trash"  ?

Wherein, I defend Dtrain. And I can't even blame my opinion on lack of alcohol.

• Some see poor people resorting to violence and feel sad that society failed to give them a less shitty start in life. For them, this video is a failure of charity. Luca appears to be one.

I would not have personally posted this in the lulz thread. I watched the whole thing, gripped, but I found it sad and hard to watch, and hardly funny. Maybe that's because I've been too close to scenarios just like that where, instead of walking away, the father in the scene pulled something to trump the tazer. If I had found this elsewhere, I would definitely not have shared it here.

I know Caff and Kor take a hard stance against clear derogatory remarks, so they and anyone else who is paying the bills these days has the ultimate say.

However, as a community member, I see you both have a right to express your points of view. As do I.

I didn't even watch the video, honestly. I blame places like Freerepublic and Stormfront (and quotes there from on SA in the Freep thread) for my thin skin on things like that. "Hoodrat" just...always came across as another dogwhistle, like "urban", or "Amish" as Freep has turned towards.

It just gets to me is all. That and being part of a still-persecuted minority (LGBT). I don't like to get confrontational, but some things just really get to me, like that. We're still cool Vlambo & Dtrain <3

Here's the deal, at the end of the day I pity everybody in that video. I pity the security guard who had to zap that woman because now he's probably got people gunning for him because that bitch is gonna want to "keep it real".

I pity the chick getting tazed because something somewhere went wrong and now she's an ignorant ass you know what. All she knows is the ghetto lifestyle and how to be the alpha bitch, she's going to live that until her dying breath. The only thing that got her to finally stop was having 50,000 volts go through her body.

I pity the kids because they don't even have a chance at healthy childhood. They're going to learn that calling someone a fucking nigger is acceptable.

The (only) funny part of this video to me? Lady going into mannequin mode on being tased. That's an effing hilarious image, no matter how you spin it.

The rest is just depressing. What got to me the most is the one kid just resorting to "YOU GAY! YOU GAY! YOU GAY!" as his basic, most elementary of insults.  That's his programmed "go-to" attack.  Now, I'm not a member of the LGBT community, yet this bothers me right to the core.  Because of this, I have to say that it surprises me, Luca, that you can bring yourself to defend them.

Believe me, I get it that you can relate to being persecuted, and "do unto others..." etc. (which is admirable), but jeez... If I were you, I know I'd have a hard time generating enough "give-a-damn" to defend anyone like that.

Why lie to yourself? A spade is spade, don't bother trying to dress it up any other way. Yes, I believe that most derogatory terms detract from meaningful discussion; I also believe that in cases like this, where the person(s) involved defines the term rather than the opposite, it falls directly under the 'spade' statute. More eloquent people have stated better in the past: Only by telling people to not use slurs does it grant them power.

Also, specifically relating to you, Luca. I'd safely assume that you are aware of the language progression surrounding the LGBT establishment has transformed from slur to label to self-definition.

Over-sensitivity and archaic political-correctness are counter-intuitive to evolving people's perceptions.
