In this case, we have one forum member suggesting that the actions of another forum member is biased based on activity on the forum that is available for all of us to witness and form our own independent judgments.

In the other case, we have one forum member reflecting upon his day while other forum members, who were not there and did not witness the alleged racialist behavior, were voicing opinions based on what they thought might have happened.

Completely different set of facts and circumstances.

I phrased that poorly which led to your misunderstanding- I didn't mean Koala's incident itself, I meant the ensuing discussion of racism it prompted, and the calls for less ?blatant? language, but I forgot that it was Kor himself making those calls:

Yes, I believe that most derogatory terms detract from meaningful discussion; I also believe that in cases like this, where the person(s) involved defines the term rather than the opposite, it falls directly under the 'spade' statute. More eloquent people have stated better in the past: Only by telling people to not use slurs does it grant them power.

"Hood Rat" is a term that is immediately understood.  So is "screaming, fat black woman" , " Irish/Italian mutt." and "wop" (Ok, I'll admit, when one of my soldiers used "I'm a wop" in explaining how to pronounce his name, I had to ask wtf a wop was..)  Should Hood Rat be acceptable use here because there was a video posted?  Should we take offense at Koala's self-labeling, because we don't have proof of his ethnic background?  Should my use of "fat black woman" be somehow less allowable, because I didn't have a camera to record the proceedings when I had an experience similar to the one Koala had posted about?

People's perceptions of what is offensive is entirely subjective. By subjective, I mean subject to the judgment of the individual.

In one case, the "alleged" offensive behavior happened on these forums, in which case all of us are witnesses.

In the other case, the "alleged" offensive behavior happened outside these forums, in which case some of us are drawing conclusions based on heresay.

Thus:

Said otherwise:

I am completely prepared to judge Dtrain and Luca for their behavior here, on these forums, as I have witnessed it all. Therefore, I my personal judgment is that each should be allowed to exercise their right to free speech. I may not agree with them, but if anyone overstepped it is Luca in trying to censor another member. (sorry Luca, I don't dig any censorship. still love your shitty, pissy, fucky, cunty, cocksuckery, motherfuckery, and titted fox-tailed ass.) That is what precipitated me to exercise my right to speak.

Conversely, I am not at all equipped to judge k0ala. He came here reporting something that happened offline, asking for support. I didn't witness his exchange so I am not at all able to know whether he was being offensive or whether someone else was overly sensitive. Which is why, when I did jump in on that thread, I didn't express any opinion as to whether he was "in the right" or "in the wrong."
