Took me this long to get around to watching Spirited Away. I must say it is a really good movie but I prefer Princess Mononoke still.

They're both on par for me. While yes Mononoke has the more mature themes, there are scenes from both that still get me awestruck when I watch them.

Started Haibane Renmei today as per Karrde's suggestion. Not very mindfuck yet, hope a bit of that emerges.

Started watching Chuunibyou. I'm enjoying it a bit more. It still suffers from some of the usual anime tropes: group of friends starts a weird club at their high school! There are only two male characters: one's the protagonist and the other exists for comic relief. The rest are kawaii anime girlssssssss. But, it's funny! And short enough that I don't feel like feet are being dragged. It's relatable, but doesn't feel patronizing. And the characters at least have a nominal amount of depth to them. So my impression is good, so far. I was able to predict the twist around halfway through without a whole lot of foreshadowing, but that's not necessary bad.

Oh, and I never commented on SAO's ending:
Yeah, it was exactly what I expected it would be. Find your kawaii girlfriend mainly through strength of will, have her very very very nearly be raped (virtually!) and then hurt the evil guy as hard as possible without killing him and actually becoming evil yourself. I'm not sure if this series ever had a moment of moral ambiguity--it certainly never introspected as such. I did find it funny how the creators couldn't graphically enact the molestation to keep it airable: no touching of the private parts allowed, so they have him...lick her eyeball? I'm pretty sure a moment they meant to be tense ended up looking awkward and laughable. At least they transferred the messianic complex away from the protagonist and onto whats-his-name.
Watched all the way through Steins;Gate with friends.  Pretty damn good.  Lots of stuff to pay attention to and twists.  Started watching Robotics;Notes and Chaos;Head, the "sequel" and "prequel" to Steins;Gate respectively, but I caught up in Robotics;Notes latest episode on Hulu, and passed out somewhere around the second or third episode in Chaos;Head.  Also watched up to the latest episode(again, on hulu) of SAO, but I felt the show had a hard time pacing itself.
I mean, all the sudden hes on the 40th floor after the episode in which he beats the first floors boss?  What about the stuff in between!
Also:  Think about what you're saying Eightball, bananas dont have memories.

just to clarify generic you're right they should have made the entirety of SAO basically around the first half the second half of the series is pretty dull... there was so much potential.

Just imagine walking around the game world and encountering a wild eightball.
encounter proceeds as such: "get in the garbage because you're trash" *kills the medic standing next to you* "get owned nerd"

then because you're super high level you end up getting away while everyone else dies.
There's your episode

Okay, done with Chuunibyou. I was pleasantly surprised at how they could tell a narrative that's not outlandish or rooted in fantasy but is mundane, yet still meaningful and emotionally salient to what I imagine is a pretty broad audience. The ending (and preceding episode) was powerful and memorable without being too cliche. And it really challenged my perceptions of most of the characters. Not a change-your-life moment, but it did induce some introspection. So, yeah I actually really enjoyed it. Maybe I have a thing for animes that look like haruhi clones.

Starting Baccano now.

Haibane Renmei.  Watch it.  No, don't ask questions, just do it.  If you're not sure, ask TOH.  He'll tell you how right I am XD

<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

I'm no expert(at all)but, isn't One Piece a little on the salacious side? Everyone loves a little dirt.

He's very right. It's mostly slice of life, but the second half really throws in the symbolism with a fair bit of darkness.

It is, it's very enjoyable albeit over the top at times. The sheer volume of episodes makes it hard to get into.

how to watch long anime: skip first 6 min, and anything that recaps: average episode run time about 11 min.
or just watch recaps at the beginning of the episodes: run time 2-3 min
done
