In Rotation*
I know Ive asked this a million times, and tried to change things up to keep it fresh, but people have been playing less and I'd like to see both servers have more people in them more often. In an attempt to try to get people to play in ours more, what would make you guys spend a little more time keeping the servers populated? If its something other than rotation feel free to state it, unfortunately we really don't have any other games to bring in new community members, so all we got at the moment is TF2 unless someone ponys up for a CoD 4/5 dedicated public server and takes the time to admin it. I mention rotation because that's what always seems to get the most people engaged. For your reference here is the RTV List if you want to build a rotation off of it, if you feel any previous TFT/FNF maps in the past month or so should be included in this list feel free to state them. arena_badlands.bsp arena_goldtooth.bsp arena_granary.bsp arena_lumberyard.bsp arena_mach2.bsp arena_phobos_base1.bsp arena_ravine.bsp arena_starship_v1.bsp arena_watchtower_b3.bsp arena_well.bsp arena_wildwest_b1.bsp cp_aqua.bsp cp_arnold_b3.bsp cp_avante_b1.bsp cp_boulder_v2.bsp cp_castle4.bsp cp_corporation_b3.bsp cp_cowpath_b3.bsp cp_desertfortress.bsp cp_dustbowl.bsp cp_fallout.bsp cp_freight_b3.bsp cp_gravelpit.bsp cp_junction_v2.bsp cp_labor.bsp cp_observatory_b1.bsp cp_oilfield.bsp cp_orange_cross2_v2.bsp cp_orange_x4.bsp cp_orange_z_b2.bsp cp_overflow_2.bsp cp_raiden.bsp cp_roswell.bsp cp_science2.bsp cp_secret_base.bsp cp_stag.bsp cp_starship_b3.bsp cp_steel.bsp cp_studio_rc4.bsp cp_warpath2.bsp cp_well.bsp ctf_2docks.bsp ctf_2fort.bsp ctf_cancer_beta5.bsp ctf_chaos.bsp ctf_convoy_v2.bsp ctf_epicenter2_b2.bsp ctf_escherhaus.bsp ctf_face.bsp ctf_fishy_b4.bsp ctf_freezers_v2.bsp ctf_geothermal_b2.bsp ctf_impact2.bsp ctf_launchzone.bsp ctf_mach4.bsp ctf_moonwalk_v2.bsp ctf_npire_v3.bsp ctf_scorpion_v4.bsp ctf_spacebase_b1a.bsp ctf_steamroll ctf_stronghold_b5.bsp ctf_switch.bsp ctf_turbine.bsp ctf_waterworks.bsp ctf_well.bsp ctf_well2.bsp dom_canalzone.bsp dom_complex_b4c.bsp ktf_blockfort.bsp ktf_chemistry_v1.bsp ktf_innercity_v2.bsp pl_badwater.bsp pl_dbheights.bsp pl_donut_b1.bsp pl_dustbowl_b4.bsp pl_goldrush.bsp pl_haywood_beta4.bsp pl_hoodoo_b1a.bsp tc_hydro.bsp tc_meridian_b2.bsp tc_spectre_b2b.bsp *I stand by my no cp_granary/badlands policy  Sig by Joel |

I'd like more stock maps, and maybe making the list a bit shorter so there aren't so many custom maps to download.

Im not trimming the votes down, this is for rotation, just an FYI, its just somewhat disheartening to see like 5+ people playing on *other* servers and not bothering to get ours hopping. Someone has to be the first one in. And I no long have the time/energy to do this on a regular basis.

I'm too busy to do anything until I'm done with finals, that and I am worthless doing any online gaming until 10 P.M. And I am pretty sure I'm not the only one who is in the last week of the semester. If we get a COD4 server, I'd be willing to help admin. Actually, COD4 has Linux Dedicated server files, so I can try using my PS3 to run it. I can't really try until this weekend because I am so damn busy, but I'd love to try it. |

I know customs are good, but I know I'd play a lot more if we just went back to mostly stocks. And please give badlands a chance.

Its not about what you run it on, most dedicated servers will run on a box much weaker than what is actually required to play the game, its about two things A) Bandwidth B) Being on 24/7 If you dont have the bandwidth it doesn't matter if you have IBM's deep blue to run the thing on, it still going to lag everyone out But anyway back on topic, do you guys thing the custom/stock/custom/stock thing worked better? I always thought that tended to empty the server out more easily, but having a servers that empty all the time is worse than having one that's empty all the time. And about finals, no, this is a trend Ive seen for a while. Props to those of you that attempt to seed, but iif you want to do that you need a friends list of at least 120 people to be able to spam enough invites imo. Â Sig by Joel |

[/quote] This won't be a problem next year and possibly during the break. Supposedly my parents are looking at getting a better internet service. Not to mention Valve is getting close to having an official Linux version of Steam which means fully compatible Linux dedicated servers. I could have a box running for us next year. I'm just glad to be getting an apartment next year. By the way. Anyone use Comcast Broadband? I just want to hear if there are any problems with it.

Bandwidth: Bandwidth is used a lotâmore specifically, upload bandwidth. Here is a list of how fast your connection must be to run a certain number of players at lowest settings. (When talking about bandwidth for servers we always talk about upload, not download.) Note: these numbers are theoretical, your results may vary slightly! Upload Speed (Kbps) Player Limit 240 6 320 8 400 10 480 12 560 14 640 16 720 18 800 20 880 22 960 24 1120 28 1280 32 1440 36 1600 40 These values are calculated with the following formula: (5,000 * player number * 8) / 1,000 Source I hope you have a badass internet connection  Sig by Joel |

I mean, you don't need as much RAM as you would if you were playing the game, but you do need something. :-\ Ripped like paper raped with ease hey scrub nerd pyros suck on these |

I'm gonna try to start playing TF2 more. Honestly though, a lot of people, myself included, are spending most of their time in L4D now. Once the novelty wears off, I expect people will be playing TF2 a bit more, although not as much as the old days.
As far as the rotation goes, I haven't played most of the new maps so I can't comment on those. I will say that I don't think it should be just stocks and warpath. Customs are what keep it fresh for me. Playing the same maps over and over leads to people memorizing every little detail of the map, and tends to reduce the spontaneity that I like about TF2. This isn't supposed to be CS. Also...2Fort = Bad...Mach4 = Good. |
