I'm probably going to be biking everywhere for a while. |

Youve had a hybrid for that long? How much does the actual battery cost?Â

This is purely based on the fact he initially quoted $3.2k and then said oops it's $4k. All ended up OK. We ended up trading it in for a Prius with no money down and a manageable monthly payment. I was so looking forward to having no car payments for a while though. |

you couldn't bypass the battery and electric motors and limp along on the gas engine?  or was the engine in that one not connected to the actual drive train?Â

or was the engine in that one not connected to the actual drive train?  My understanding is that early model hybrids used the electric motor in a two-fold manner. First, the electric motor was used for 0-30 kph speeds. Second the entirety of the electrical on the car was routed through the battery packs, so that all systems could benefit from the alternator/regenerative braking. Makes sense that the car wouldn't function without an intact hybrid battery. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. -Albert Einstein |

Air conditioning is actually pretty easy. You do need special tools. Harbour Freight can equip you with a set of gauges and a vacuum compressor for about $150.
Then you'll need refrigerant and oil, local laws may prevent the purchase without license unless 12a is legal in your state. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |

I think your definition of "pretty easy" can sometimes by pretty far removed from that of the general populace. |

on the scale of oil/filter/lube to rebuilding a transmission, air conditioning is pretty easy.
