Pacific Rim does look sweet - a bit of Godzilla, a bit of Ultraman, a bit of Voltron, and a bit of every alien invasion from War of the Worlds through Independence Day.

However, Godzilla was a beautifully unique response by the Japanese film scene to the horrors of atomic war, and as such it was as political as it was "sci-fi-kick-ass" (as it was also cheesy). Godzilla was the misunderstood hero.

I fret that Pacific Rim, and the talk of a Pacific Rim/Godzilla Crossover, will continue to reinforce a blind attitude of "America, Fuck Yeah!"

From what I have seen, there is a multinational aspect to the film as well, as Japan, Russia, China and Australia have giant robots as well as the Americans. How much screen time they will get is yet to be seen. RIMPAC with giant robots?
In this trailer they refer to the monsters as Kaiju, the Japanese word for 'strange beast', most notably used to refer to Godzilla and his brethren.

I get a strong Neon Genesis Evangeline feel from the trailer. Similar imagery such as the Kaiju on the deck of a ship and the Jaegers transported by helicopter.

Saw ironman 3 and enjoyed it. It changed up the extremis story from the comics quite a lot but there was a nod or two to people who had read it.
I thought it was opposite the first movie in that #3 did not start strong, some of the slapstick felt forced. But, it really redeems itself by the middle and the climactic battle is pretty great. It also did not suffer from as many plot holes as #2 which is what held #2 back. DO NOT STAY AFTER THE CREDITS IT IS NOT A TEASER. It is a mediocre comedy bit you should watch on youtube, it's funny but was so so disappointing for everyone who stayed after.

BUT I am far more excited to have found a small indyish 4-5 screen theater that sells student tickets for only 7 dollars! In a city! Not to mention we shared the theater with maybe 10 people total. Granted, it was 9:50pm monday night. Also first movie theater I've been to with a bar in the lobby, that sort of blew my mind (pa has shitty shit liquor laws). Manor theater if my pittsburgh bro goffin reads this.

Iron Man 3 was AWESOME.  It is truly a BIG!  MOVIE!  Huge action and full of those moments that jerk you out of your cinematographic expectations.  The battle scenes were especially memorable.  Definitely go see it in theaters, it just won't be the same on a small screen.

So ready for Thor and Captain America. Wolverine looks good too and hopefully won't be a trainwreck like Origins.

Watched Drive.

Should have been called "Ryan Gosling Tries to Look Cool and Tough by Staring at Things and Not Talking: The Movie."

I rate it meh/10.

It looked ok up to the point of seeing Ron Perlman in it and I have now officially classed this as a B-C movie right behind the movie battleship.

I appreciated Drive solely for the soundtrack.  Which surprised the hell out of me.

The soundtrack was the only reason I decided to give the movie a shot.

I can appreciate what the film wanted to be, but the end result was just... bland. I would have loved to see a modern twist on 80s simple action flicks that ended up being something memorable and with some character.

Put christopher walken, and morgan freeman in a movie together. Have it produced by abrams/spielberg collab (but you know... tone down shakeycam/lens flare, I liked super 8), have it written by steven moffat/joss whedon collab. Music by (honestly I don't know... whoever did music direction for scrubs because even if you hated that show you must admit the musical cues and placement no matter the song or situation were always perfect there).

Enjoy this hypothetical that will never happen.

Saw Iron Man 3. Was pretty good, better than 2, not as good as 1. Some of it just felt a bit, I dunno, forced.

Watched American Beauty.

At first I thought it felt like social commentary with caricature characters, very well put together scenes and shots (someone really liked framing), and generally just stuff that TV shows and other movies have borrowed from it. However, it did become more human and twisted itself into a tragi-comedy that ended up grabbing my attention. It's a well liked movie for good reason.

I really felt like the pacing in 3 was quite terrible. I enjoyed the ride in 2 more.

I was thoroughly impressed with Iron Man 3. I'll agree with merc that it wasn't as good as 1, but it came close. As usual RDJ steals the show and he plays the part perfectly.

What more, I loved what they did with Tony Stark in the movie. He grew as a character, and the movie took a lot of risks that paid off. I may write a full review later, but for now I say watch Iron Man 3. It is well-worth your money and it's just as good as The Avengers was.

Plus, the kid actor they got didn't suck. That's always good.

I did not see it in 3D.

Iron man impression:
Tony Stark cant sleep.
But hes iron man
But he does not really play iron man
Hes Tony Stark
He calls out the bad dude.
Showdown
Bad dude is not the final boss
A new challenger appears
hurrah
FIN.

IM3: I don't think they went in the right direction on this one and it just doesn't make sense given the history of the characters.  For the diehards out there,  I think they got scammed big time.    They are making this shit up as they go which is ok to a point but come on man,    wtf were they thinking.
