Just found out that Neat (of Neat Receipts fame) is a pretty solid company. Been meaning to scan a bunch of stuff, so I busted out my scanner and downloaded the current software to find out it doesn't work. Dropped them an email about my problem, and got this as a response:

Hello Evan,

This is an issue with the old scanner, the driver hasn't been updated and isn't working on the newer versions of our software. Neat can replace this scanner for you with a refurbished new model NM-1000 scanner free of cost.

In order to place a replacement order, we will need some information for the shipping department. We will ship out a replacement scanner and e-mail a printable return label for you to send the old scanner back for free. Please fill out the following info, and I'll forward this to the shipping department.

Customers within the continental US should not ship their hardware back until the support department has confirmed a warranty order is in place.

Full Name
Mailing Address (Non PO box)
Phone number
Software Version (Help>About on PC Neatworks>About on Mac)
Model number (M/N) of the scanner (found on the bottom)
Serial number (S/N) of the scanner

My dad had a similar story with a Fellowes paper shredder, he bought a non-working from a garage sale with intent to fix it, he contacted fellows gave them the model and told them he intended to fix it, they replied with; "That is a model we no longer have parts for, or support, but if you send it back to us, we will replace it with a similar model at no cost other than shipping." (which, goes to the shipping company of course). So... consider that when buying a paper shredder.

Most of what I say has the intent of some sort of comedic value. Whether or not I'm actually funny remains to be determined.
