Going to be in Chicago next week from Thursday-Tuesday for my wife's ALA conference. I won't have much to do there but study so any recommendations are welcome.

Study Abroad. Now that I think of it I probably should've posted this in a different thread because it's technically not business.

Yes, I don't travel that often. I think I was in Canada for about 5 minutes when I was really young but I'm not going to count that.

But seriously, I hear that the biggest concern about Prague is pickpocketing. I'm bringing my camera with an extra lens and probably a handful of things in a backpack. I want to try and make sure nothing gets stolen: Any tips?

I would recommend using a backpack that has 2 zippers to each pocket (most are like this but not all), this way you can use a small pad lock (combination or simple key) to lock the zippers together.

Ultimately you can get past the dual zipper thing, but it takes a decent amount of force (unless the zipper is already broken), so ultimately it's something you would probably notice.

Always keep things like your wallet in front pockets (a habit I've come to doing any time I go to a crowded shopping center).

I'll try to post more as I think of them... oh yeah, dtrain will appreciate this.... carry a gun (have fun getting that through the airport).

Don't ever carry anything in a shoulder bag of any sort, either the strap or the bottom of the bag itself can be attacked with a razor to get at the contents.

I always carry my wallet & passport in the same (tight) front pocket when I travel abroad, but I'm not out in public much.

Your front pockets are always tight....ahem....which is part of the reason Helix doesn't want you around Crow on his Bachelor's night. You might unduly tempt him to make an "I <3 at0m" picture.

[/quote]None of those were done under coercion, and if I hadn't lost the note you wrote me that I found after waking up alone in the hotel room the morning after BaltiBeer 2010, you'd be in that rotation as well.

Well yeah, but at0m mentioned slashes/knives, and I saw this while browsing thinkgeek and figured it was valid.

Also, you can always throw it over the neck and have the strap cross-chest. Like a satchel...indiana jones had one...
