I'd chalk this up as 'lets design something super awesome and not take into account whether or not it's going to be actually usable with this new "gotta buy a bazillion books" sales model we've got going'. I was disgusted at their response when I complained.

Not even a little bit, unless you spill.

Pot's on medium, half full of water, with the pasta strainer in it so none of the glass touch the bottom of the pot. Half-submerge candle, leave until wax melts, pull out (can even pull it out by hand without a potholder if you're careful about where you touch the glass), dump into another candle. Put a wick into the now-empty jar, and pour the wax from all of the other ones into that jar. The one in the center of the picture already has 5 other candles consolidated into it. The pliers are to snag the wick stubs and metal wick carriers out of the molten wax, which I'm holding onto and may reuse as well at a later date.

Ended up melting down the leftovers (wick burned all the way down until it self-extinguished but there's wax left in the jar) of 9 candles and a scented tealite (just for kicks), ended up with a full medium-sized candle and another half-full (the first one filled up with 8 of them, then I dumped that lemon one into a second candle and it filled up half the thing!). A half-dozen new cedar wicks and carriers were $6 at Michael's, and all but three of the candles were already 'naturwick' ones from Target so I knew that wouldn't be an issue. I consider the experiment a success, although the Yankee Candle Company ones have a slightly higher melting point and may not burn down properly as recycled candles with wooden wicks.

The big brown & green one is working fine, it's actually been burning since I finished pouring and trimmed the wick. If the lemon one doesn't work out, I'll just melt it back down and mix in something with a lower melting point to modify the candle to work better, it's NBD. Michael's has a wide variety of unscented waxes and oils if I ever decide to make my own as well. Tempted to try chemically treating the wood first to get a candle with a different-colored flame (which is something I did back in chemistry class in high school). If it doesn't work with wood, I've done it before with cotton twine as a wick, but I like how the wood wick candles burn better so I'll try that first.

I recently discovered that the light gun will not work on flat screens.  You really do need to dig up a old tube TV.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing a Coleco Vision, but if it's anything like my Coleco Gemini, it uses an RF modulator.
Now, you can cheap out and pick up an RF de-modulator and get noisy composite a/v to your TV.

Nice, clean composite a/v right from the board.

There are mods for S/Video and even component, however for the amount of work you might as well go full out and build a VGA output. Requires an FPGA: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/168968-...__hl__f18a

I was also sad when I realized my SNES light bazooka wouldn't work on my flatscreen, and that nobody had managed a solid workaround as yet.

Actually, yes. Rear projection tv screens are flat and they have been around since the 70's.

A lot of people improperly interchange Flat Panel with Flat Screen.

As he said, flat screens have been around a long ass time, flat panels are fairly new.

And i still watch tv on one regularly
