Everyone, I can't express enough how much your words mean to me (and Scar, as well). Having to go through this has been made much easier with the support of just about everyone I see or talk to--online, my college friends, school administration and of course family. On that note, Faye, I have spoken to my school's dean of academic affairs, and we are at an understanding for what my position is now. I have decided to continue with classes (I was able to focus today, mostly), and will commute back to Madison when needed. It will be challenging to pick up a lot of the pieces left by my father--what my assets are, filing taxes, if my health insurance is still good, how to handle my car insurance, the list goes on.
My family has finally gotten legal counsel--the same attorney I referred to before has agreed to take our case. He has advised us to say absolutely nothing regarding the incident to anyone. Since my father's identity as well as those of the police responders has been released to the public, I expect that the media shitstorm will be intensifying now. Since I do not wish to attract any of it to these forums, I will say no more regarding the specifics of the shooting and subsequent investigation. But know that your words are read and we are thankful for your support. I'll still be around.

Remember to give yourself time to collect your thoughts and keep yourself sane while dealing with all of this. My condolences for your loss and best of luck with sorting through the fallout.

Consider talking to a Therapist if you can man (obviously, ask your Lawyer if that's ok beforehand if you're concerned about any legal implications this may have). Sometimes it can help a lot to get some sense of calm and help you understand what you're going through mentally here. Also, I imagine the stress this situation will put you through (especially with media involvement) might be eased a bit through this. Scar, same thing for you buddy. Hope the best for you two. |

In FL the psychiatrist-patient privilege is even stronger than doctor-patient. |

I just heard the news. Eightball, Scar, my deepest condolences...
I think everyone's offered the same advice I have, but might as well reiterate it, we're all here for you no matter what, so if you need someone to talk to, just drop a line, we'd be happy to lend an ear. Do whatever it takes within reason to heal, this is going to be a trying time no matter what. Take your time to heal, don't push yourself. If you think you're going too hard, don't be afraid to back off. Mental and emotional health is your top priority, you can't let it take a backseat. Best wishes to you, Scar, and the rest of your family. I hope the process from here on out turns out okay. Again, my deepest condolences to you guys. |

The doctor can't disclose patient records or talk about the patient (in an identifiable manner) without written consent from the patient. This confidentiality becomes null and void if the therapist believes you are an immediate danger to yourself or others (i.e.- threatens to kill someone or themselves). |

I'm really sorry to hear about this, man. All I can say is we're here for you and scar, we got your backs, and it's gonna be better eventually, as much as things aren't good right now.

Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself <+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some. |

My mom's brother (my uncle) died Saturday. They weren't close, but had started getting closer over the last couple of years. My mom backed out of donating a kidney to him after my dad died and us kids objected, since she wasn't a very good match + she was our only parent left (and has conditions that would've been exacerbated by having only one kidney). He & his wife stopped talking to all of us after that, and now he's gone. Bleh.

1st world problems:
My new job pays me a decent amount, but sucks. Like "cubicle farm, conference calls all day" sucks. I was hired for a technical position, I don't do anything technical, I inflict project management on other technical people. Not even good project management, I supposed to inflict the kind of project management that takes 3 day projects and turns them into 3 month projects. |

Welshing on donating the kidney (not criticizing, its a decision I agree with considering the circumstances) was probably a wound that wasn't going to heal. 11:35 Socks Greatbacon_work: Just accept the idea of enemas. |

[/quote]I agree, he basically told my mom that she was consigning him to a death sentence, but a new kidney would've given him maybe five more years of life (the anti-rejection drugs he was taking for his heart, also a transplant, would've killed the new kidney pretty rapidly), and had the potential of taking dozens from my mother. If we/they had been closer, maybe it would've been a more difficult decision, but it was a no-brainer after I realized she was a marginal match. She's not kicking herself for it, either, he died angry at her, but that's his problem, not hers. Plus he ended up getting a transplant elsewhere and still died. If that'd been my mom's, I'd have been livid. :/ "If you want to be a Double E, bend over and grab your knees...." "Atom is Sexy!" <-- Donate your own pic to the cause! Victory needs no explanation.
