Even though that thing's available for free, it's one of the few books I solidly prefer a paper copy, because mine's all earmarked and written on.

It has recently occured to me how much I could use a book to read on nights like tonight, where I have no games I want to really play, nothing to do outside, and feeling kinda groggy so having a book to read is something that would be nice. Also apparently need to start getting into adventure time I guess

So yeah. Throw me suggestions? I don't want to say what I like so instead I'll just say what I for sure don't like: historical fiction, sports fiction, romance (and the kind of "romance" novels I do like aren't the types of things I'd ever read in public)

*Anything from the Discworld series, order really shouldn't matter too much.
*Game of Thrones (if you've seen the TV show, the book provides more details about certain things and there's less sexposition)

Hitchhiker's is great, I'm pretty sure I've read all of them. Started with book two and kinda made my way around... actually not sure if I ever read the last book. 

Discworld sounds interesting. Is it just fantasy?

If I could read JRR Tolkien then I might as well be able to read shakespere. Don't have any interest in reading those books since I've already seen the movies, they are pretty damn heavy, and alot of the mystery/intrigue I already know. I have read the hobbit though, its a good book.

He left out tom bombadil... that is a reason to read the books alone.

You probably haven't read the last Hitchiker book.

Discworld is comedic fantasy, and very difficult to describe to someone who hasn't read any of them.

Discworld is one of my favorite series, but I disagree that order doesn't matter.  For some characters (Sam Vimes, Death, Rincewind), continuity makes a difference.  That said, they are episodic and very enjoyable even if you haven't read all of the other books.

They aren't *just* fantasy because he parodies real-world things like government, the invention of the newspaper, football, movies, shopping malls, and the city of London.  In the midst of light-hearted jabs at the real world, he creates some compelling characters that you love reading about and stories that affect you as much as the fantasy world that they are set in.

[Mission Difficult]

I would highly recommend The Daily Adventures of Mixerman. It's the story of a guy documenting his sessions with a band, and pretty much everything goes horribly wrong.

Just finished reading all of the appendices that came with the Lord of the Rings. Holy crap, Tolkien was a crazy person. Also, wish I'd done this years ago.

So, not knowing what I was getting into at the time I picked up 'Man and his Symbols,' by Carl Jung...
I was hoping for a look into symbolism, but was I got was more focused on Dreams and their value in Psychoanalysis..

It's very dry, I might have to skip some of it..

Seeing where a bunch of sci fi ideas in movies, games, and books got their inspiration from was cool. The unfiltered, rough writing style is an interesting change of pace from my usual reading, but it also makes it a challenge to keep track of who everhone is and what different future-terms refer to. It sort of tosses you straight into their world unceremoniously and lets you figure out what everything is.
