Wanted to pick this game up, but shopping around and in process of building new computer to run it.

Premium worth it outside of prepaying for the expansions? Or other bundles?

You get lots of xp bonuses with premium, plus overall cost of premium is less than buying each expansion individually.

Server will be down as of January 29th. A few reasons.

Reason 1 (Issue since BF3 IMO)
When a server has expansion maps within its cycle but is currently playing non-expansion maps, players without the expansion can still not play (this is sometimes okay if expansion has additional features, but without additional features this issue still occurs).

Reason 2 (EA are morons)
"Official" servers are the ONLY servers that get "Play Now" traffic. Official servers are INSANELY limited, including the inability to enforce rules (no kicking, no banning by administrators, ever).

Reason 3 (EA are morons still)
Server runs Conquest Mode only, many people know of this as the classic 'Battlefield' mode. This mode needs no time limit as it is entirely reliant on ticket counts, so time limit should be turned OFF. Recent updates enforce time limits on all game modes, INCLUDING conquest mode. While you can set the time limit insanely high, it shouldn't need to be done this way.

Reason 4
General community interest. While I love playing with you guys, I haven't seen the server regularly populated in a while.

Reason 5
Cutting my costs (I'm getting married in August and want to save up some money).

Reason 6
I might get a less expensive VPS and run a Just Cause 2 Multiplayer server (at least I'd have actual control over that).

I haven't played because I stopped finding the game fun and EA's dickery with the game in the first place is inexcusable. I highly doubt I'll be buying Battlefield 5 next year. (you know its coming) The game is also apparently a mess on consoles as well with constant crashes on both 360/PS3 and the Xbone/PS4. Can't wait for EA to ruin Mirror's Edge 2 as well!

Hopefully they won't fuck up Mirror's Edge 2 or Battlefront so much... of course... Mirror's Edge they probably will (since that's more Dice as the dev team), whereas Battlefront is still Bioware (just under the EA flag).

Dice took over Battlefront? Well then... it's screwed... The ONLY way I might actually get battlefront now is if it ends up being an updated BF2142 (would make sense honestly)... but I don't expect it. The only EA games I might buy again in the future is more FIFA titles now...
