Another thing if Teamspeak were used is that it supports connections to multiple Teamspeak servers making joint opps much easier to pull off. In fact I believe tgww website has tutorial on optimum set up for that.

While mumble is easiest on the system resources it becomes moot when you have to use multiple software for joint opp anyway.

But as you can see for toast quite a bit of volume manipulation is on his in game voice. He's proven my point and backed it up.

Lastly I have ran in very effective squads and platoons with outfits that use in game only.

Sent from my wireless communicator.

If I could change the subject for a second. When squads are full in the middle of combat it takes a while for someone to re-organize to open up slots. This is perfectly reasonable because everyone is focused on doing something important. However, this is also the time when more bodies are needed and it's hard to get where you guys are when you can't join a squad. So it would be helpful if the leaders look at the numbers during times when everyone is getting into galaxies or buses and make sure there is plenty of room.

tl;dr don't bitch at me when I ask if the squads are full after I here you guys organizing gals at gate and I haven't loaded yet. I'm not being lazy I'm just making sure I'm not stuck without a squad after you have all dropped and are too busy to open spots.

Fair point, and Ill try to keep an eye on things, the problem from my end is that I can't see that numbers status on the other squad(s).

As for all the voice chatter, I think it would behoove some of us to bark short orders on in game, but nothing more. I gotta actually take the time to mute all channels that aren't squad/platoon. Feel free to invite competent pubbies that use in game, and then from there we can lead them to the much higher fidelity mumble.

I know I haven't been on as often as I'd like, but I'd be fine with acting as a relay between mumble and in-game.

Can always type to the pubbies in platoonsay for orders. And Toast,

Quote:It's not like googling "mumble" is so difficult, but some people just want to play and won't bother, and even a lazy pubbie is useful if they're willing to join chat to follow orders.

Same can be said about TS. Also, the TS client is a bigger download, meaning it takes more time & effort, meaning it's less likely for a pubby to download TS than Mumble.

Really, I just don't want to use fucking in-game because you have mic spammers, you have fucking six year olds who don't shut the fuck up, you have asshats being asshats, and it's not our small, closely-knit chat that I enjoy retreating to after dealing with fucking idiots all day in the real world. I'd rather limit my exposure to morons as much as possible during my down time.

If you are at all serious about playing games online you should have no qualms about installing voice clients on your computer. I have vent (sucks), ts3 (meh), mumble (what everyone here uses), and skype (FUCK YOU SKYPE). At this point i could get more but no one really uses anything outside these. No need to try to please people, if they are good squad members and want people to play with they should be more than willing to get mumble to talk with us.

As for the squad thing its usually Negate, or myself that most often chime in about full squads. As well all know saying we need something = volunteering yourself to do it.

"Squad's full"
guess you want to be new leader then.
"FUCK"

[/quote]Squad leaders place beacons and waypoints, that's basically it. If you're in Bravo squad, just copy everything Caff does and it should work. Tongue

Of course Beacons require certs, and the higher leveled your beacon, the shorter its cooldown timer is.

it can be helpful sometimes to use squad chat to tell pubs whats going on and what we're doing. Also to entice them to join us in mumbo. You really dont have to do a lot even as platoon lead, just put down wp and tell others to get there and do a thing

Thats just the basics but its also over simplifying, telling people where to go is like 25% of the battle, knowing where to go and what mix to bring.

You can't micro manage much, but its your job to make sure the group has fun, and the fun level depends on the calls that you make.

You know, thinking about it, platoon leader shouldn't have to do all that for every squad (unless you want to do some mass shit).

Ultimately you should just be able to guide each squad leader (or squad as a hole).

Honestly, the BRB'U is the only multi-squad platoon I've ever played in where every squad is doing the exact same thing(s) the whole time. TGWW usually has very small squads though.

Any of the large platoons I've played with typically don't do that much management. Usually platoon leader either separates himself from squad leaders, or only handles alpha squad. After that, he does nothing more than guide whole squads (or squad leaders) to specific areas or goals. For example, starting a pre-emptive strike on a major point while the another squad provides an advance defensive to slow down influx to major point and another one assists in a capture behind. (Assuming you have 3).

If we had 20 BRBU in mumble, you'd see me doing this more often, but usually its 10-16 and I might as well manage it all. It also depends a bit on the base and situation, like an AMP station I'd totally split the forces up for example

And this is where it comes full circle to: Use In-Game Voice, you'd get more interactions from the players, longer standing players, and more players willing to stick around longer for a longer full platoon.

This goes back into the majority of full platoons I've been in usually use in-game voice the majority of the time. When there's more in-game interactivity there's more positive response. If they stick around and see that communication they may be more willing to join up our mumble server. But if they hear majority silence... well... what would you do?

Using In-Game is important for player retention, ESPECIALLY for BR 1 players who are truly new players.

You want to build the community more, bring in more players, and grow, this is your best option.
