MTV green lit seasons 2-4 after episode one was shown.
I understand that Studio Mir was exhausted after completing season 1 and took a different contract over Korra, but that doesn't explain the gap in content. |

Maybe there was better, different content by the second studio but it was literally so badly done they had to take the parts that were at least.... more acceptable than not.
