So the wife has decided to kick us off on childhood nostalgia, we've recently watched a few Disney Animated Classics we grew up as kids watching and yeah I still enjoy them with childlike wonderment, but honestly this was something I couldn't help thinking about.

I really fucking miss Jim Henson, I watched The Muppet Movie (1979) and Muppet Christmas Carol (the first Muppet Movie made after Jim Henson's Death).

Watching both of these made me realize how much his characters influenced my life growing up, yeah I was born in 1986, but I did grow up on Sesame Street; and I always thought the Muppets were awesome, and the character creation quality and the personalities and there's just so much he gave to the world.

I also have to say, Brian Henson has done a wonderful job in his stead. But looking at Muppet Movie vs. Christmas Carol you can definitely tell there's something... not quite there. That something is Jim Henson.

Despite the rise in computer generated graphics and all that, I personally hope the Muppets never go away, at least Disney allows them to operate relatively autonomous to the Disney brand (it seems).

Yeah I'm being a lady-like sap, I don't care, Jim Henson was amazing.

I watched the last Hobbit movie. At least the cinematography was good and you get to see cool wizard shit happen for about a minute.

Was browsing YouTube last night and I found that Sony had uploaded The Interview. 
I'm pretty sure it's the full length movie as its run time is 1:52:50 or something on the video link.

Yes.  There is numerous digital distribution options.  YouTube is a rental option.  Google Play has both rental and Purchase options.  The official Web site has a rental option.  And there are plenty of other options.

Only in the US but plenty outside are pirating.

The Interview was bad. The whole thing was probably some bad pr stunt to make more money because they even knew it was awful. The only thing that could have made it worse was if it starred Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.

I saw the last Hobbit movie back on opening day and in general I thought it was paced a lot better than the Desolation of Smaug. That being said I have two issues with the move.

[spoiler]First, Thorin's turn back to "good guy" seemed really forced and I wish there was a bit more of a dramatic consequence for it. It kind of just happens when he's alone without much more provocation than what he already had been experiencing. Granted it did setup his eventual downfall, but at that point there had been no real immediate consequence of his actions to cause the turn other than getting everybody riled up. I hate to call it a true tragic flaw because the way the movie presented it, it seemed rather tacked on in order to move the plot along.

Second, how the Sauron/Gandalf/Galadriel plot resolved itself. I do like that the movie wrapped things up and provided a bridge from this trilogy to LOTR, but I feel it was rather rushed. The wizards gathering to showdown with Sauron was a cool moment, but I felt like it was resolved almost too conveniently. The payoff didn't match the buildup.

Last is more of a minor thing, but I still think the elf/dwarf romance plot did little enhance the movie. I'll give you the ending scene with Tauriel was powerful and one of the better moments of the conclusion, but why was Legolas even featured that much in this trilogy? I get having a strong female character was important for the movie and they needed to find a way to fit her in since she wasn't in the books, but it again seemed a little forced for the sake of having her and she seemed kind of two-dimensional to me. What did we learn about her other than she can kick ass, was already betrothed to Legolas, and fell in love with Kili? I dunno, maybe I'm too cynical these days but "love at first sight" as a plot device doesn't do it for me anymore.[/spoiler]

[/quote]I mean, nobody is probably going to outright say it, some of the scenes in that movie are really rough and I can imagine there was a slight air of awkwardness. I watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo with my dad and he's a real straight laced Christian.

I watched a horror film this last week.

The theatres were incredibly packed for a Tuesday night. My dad and I wanted to go see The Imitation Game but it was full. My dad looks at the choices on the self serve touch-screen. He looks at me and says "Let's go watch Exodus."

I nearly was killed this night. The nightmare is over. For now.

I watched Rescue Dawn on Netflix the other day. I thought it was a surprisingly good movie.
