feels kinda good, although it's getting dropped down to 75/75 tomorrow now that they've upgraded my ONT and swapped my router over to ETH instead of COAX.

Also, finding out that the bottleneck is INSIDE THE HOUSE *spooky noise* now is kinda neat. It only tests as 50/50 on my dual-band N wifi and only tests as 20/20 from my gaming rig which is on a powerline adapter to the router downstairs. The 150/160 is from my fileserver which is on GigE all the way across the sky. To the router.

Also also, means Plex works FABULOUSLY even when I'm not home.

Actually most ISPs want their customers to provide their own hardware, this way they can charge out the ass for service calls. Most have the policy of; "If the issue is considered your equipment you will be charged." Basically this means any cable wiring into the home as well as exterior wiring problems are theirs, everything else, you're SOL because it's your problem. This is majority.

SOME cable companies (one I worked for) require you use their equipment to try to guarantee a certain level of connectivity. A wonderful situation is when cable boxes pick up interference from wifi modems/routers. It doesn't happen with most, but I can tell you there are about 4 different Dish Network receivers that do this shit.

I'd argue they'd rather make rental fees than let you use your own hardware. Just look at CableCard rental fees (decryption cards so you can use your own DVR instead of a cable box) if you want proof.

most company's I've dealt with charge a minimum of $60 for an "if it's not our fault" and will tack on $X/every hour the service technician is there. I've seen service call bills cost upwards of $200 because of it. That is well over the cost of a modem rental for a significant amount of time.

I actually am relatively active thanks to the game Ingress, and walking the dogs, and spending time with my wife. I got it more for the social aspect and the fact I wanted to play with some of the SDK stuff it has available.

Also it notifies me in a less annoying way if I get phone calls (small vibration and flashing LED), after having worked in a call center for two years I sure as hell don't want to hear any phone ring on a regular basis, so I leave my cell phone on silent (my wife hates this).

I've actually considered getting those wrist bands simply for an alarm that doesn't make noise. I usually don't have problems waking up when I have earplugs in but I've always worried about it.
